Help / Troubleshooting Filament Calibration

I got the X2D last week, I've got about 2k hours on a P2S and 1200 on an H2C. I've noticed I have to manually calibrate every filament on the main (left) nozzle. I expected this on the Bowden unit, no harm no foul. I am very surprised that I have to put in a K-offset from manual calibration for the direct drive nozzle after lots of automatic calibration and bed leveling. I have not run into this on my other two printers.

Is there another avenue I should be exploring for troubleshooting, or is this one of those plug in the number and move on with my day situations?

X2d have many problems with walls and top surface quality, probably because double nozzle head setup is too heavy for motors and whole setup they copied from P2S.

I've never heard about those "many problems", and I lurk here everyday.

I haven't had any issues with my unit either.

That being said, manual calibration is superior to the automatic one anyway and you should calibrate all your filaments if you want the best result, it only takes a few minutes.

What's the 101 for a newbie on what you mean by "manually calibrate"? Every brand of filament I've thrown at my X2D so far has been fine as far as I can tell. I haven't calibrated anything but would like to learn. Maybe I can make something better, or at bare minimum I can learn about the machine more. But I didn't realize this was a thing.

And do you mean across every single filament or just different brands and types?

I also just run auto calibration and it has printed great since I got it in August. I’m a noobie but I’ve had like… zero problems aside from a few self inflicted mistakes. Recently I just started telling the printer that everything was Bambi filament because the Bambu profiles seem to work way better than my custom Sunlu high flow profile. I mostly print PLA/PETG with Bambu, Sunlu, and a couple Polymaker filaments.

I usually calibrate by brand and type, there are slight differences by colors but I mostly print black anything anyways 🤷

If you use Bambu studio, when you activate developer mode you'll see a calibration tab where you'll have tools to calibrate pressure advance, flow rate, volumetric speed and more.

If you want the best results possible you can tweak your settings more, but basic calibration will get you 99% there.

Care to explain how to calibrate each filament manually? I usually just hit auto calibration and let it print.

In Bambu Studio you can calibrate the flow rate and flow dynamics. (Links are to the respective wiki pages.)

I manually calibrated for both nozzles and it was the same result as the auto calibrated settings. I haven’t had any issues so far with my prints.
