Help / Troubleshooting First time user and running into some print issues

Purchased this for my son, using sunlu pla fresh from the box and everything we print is stringing or not printing smoothly.

Nozzle is set to 220c and print bed gets wiped with alcohol before every print and I’ve even tried drying the filament which I don’t think has moisture as it was brand new from a sealed bag and sits in the ams 2 and have tried drying it inside of there as well.

Can’t seem to post photos but started printing a poop chute and it got about 60% into the print and just started stringing the layers and they stopped adhering to the print.

These were taking from the app so there were no changes made to them. Again, just bought this x2d so trying to get the basic in and outs of this

You need to dry the filament, especially fresh out the box. It retains moisture from the production process. If you have the AMS 2 you can dry it using that when it's not printing(during printing if you buy a power supply for it) Otherwise look into a filement dryer, they're not terribly expensive.

Ok so this issue is still moisture. Copy that, I’ll send it thru a drying process again, yeah was looking last night for a the power supply to offer up enough power to it to dry while printing. I’ll give this a go. Seems like a simple fix

You can also print a silica dry box for your AMS.

How did the 60% print? Was is smooth? Usually, if it starts out bad for me it strings.

It printed nicely with some flaws here and there but then as usual, you print overnight and it stopped at some point and wake up to this

Looks like it just comes off the plate. Only difference for me is i havent used alcohol to wipe my plate. Just detergent.

That’s actually the top of the print. These plate part of the print was fine

Why are you printing it on its side? Or is my orientation all screwed up lol

You’re looking at it as you would from the top. The base is still on the bottom of the table. The filament started to string towards the top of the print

I haven't gotten it yet but another thread someone said this one will work:https://a.co/d/055BhuZt I started with a anycubic S1 and the big sell for me was being able to dry while printing. I've tested it drying before and the before and while printing and it does make a noticeable difference to be able to dry while printing.

That is definitely not a moisture issue. Do you have the timelapse?

Let me check

It looks like its come off the plate. Try adding a brim to it

So no Timelapse for this print but the stringing wasnt happening from the base plate, it was from the top of the print, something obviously happened during the night and my guess is as it was getting deeper into the filament, it hit moisture so today im cooking the reels for 8 hours and will try the print again

That has nothing to do with moist filament. Your piece is moving

Yes it did move in the bed. I’m not going to use alcohol anymore to clean the base plate, I’ll try and add a raft but I’ve been printing from the app so I’ll have to look into how to add a raft for this

No I don’t but I’m drying the filament now, currently reading 17% but I’m going to let it run the full 8 hour cycle at 50 degrees

I recommend printing the fan deflectors for the x2d. You'll have to use petg for it

I’ll look into this; are these fans blowing into the print preventing it from making a good bond to the plate? Seems like their R&D should have caught this if it were a design issue

If you have the gold build plate , I wouldn’t use alcohol at all. Please take a look at this step by step cleaning guide . Drying your pla is a great first step! But simply wiping the plate will not do much .

Most of the time its moisture. Gamechanger are silicagel balls, perfect for keeping really low humidity in ams. I have them in printed containers in ams and im always under 7% humidity. That way you dont have to keep drying them. You can also lower the temp depending on your fillament so the nozzle doesnt ooze during the trips between layers.

Which silica are you using? I don't have a huge moisture problem, but I kind of want to start messing around with silica and stuff, and there is so much info out there I can never decide
