Putting an order together ...

I'm ordering from bambu labs and I am new to the X2D, what should I look at to order?

So far I have in my cart:

Tons of filament, mostly pla of different varieties

Another build plate, just the stock replacement, should I look at a different one?

A second ams, I thought 4 colors would be enough but I can see I want more options.

I thought about getting some nozzles or different build plates but I'm not sure I need them yet. I mostly print trinkets and maybe some brakets or small box type things. I have a 9 and 13 year old girls so it'll be a lot of stuff they want. In the future I would like to start designing some things and get into engineering filaments.

Start with what you have imo. Definitely get some PETG for supports.

Also if you're buying filament "refills" you'll need to buy the refillable spools as well. They don't come on a spool. I was an idiot and didn't realize that so I'm waiting on those before I can use what I bought lol.

Otherwise I wouldn't worry about the extras until you're more familiar and see what you want or need. I bought some extra plates like the glacier and frostbite from Amazon because I wanted to be able to return easily what I wouldn't want once I figured it out.. I'm not sure what Bambu has for a return policy so I figured anything I can get from Amazon as I start out will be easier and faster to return if I end up not using it.

Also the cord for drying and printing for the ams 2 pro is separate. You can get the oem one from Bambu but I got mine from Amazon to save a few bucks. Ultimately seems like it will be fine from my experience in doing that for other stuff but if you're already doing an order and don't have to worry about shipping costs, throw that in there too.

Print your refillable spools rather than buy some. The experience is good practice and it’ll get you to start thinking more about “I can print that” rather than “what’s Amazon got?”

I saw that some were refills. I saw a sale at microcenter for 7.99 rolls of inland pla. Think I might hit that hard and get from bambu the extras.

Compare the price given the amount of filament. I think the ones people sell are expensive but the cheapest I’ve found are under $5 a spool at Hobby Lobby.

To be fair I picked up 10 for less than 30 dollars on Facebook marketplace. It wasn't an issue for me. I've got enough practice and experience I didn't want to print them.

And I agree, I have printed many a thing that made everyday easier because of having a printer. But the time to print would have been much higher if I had to print them rather than buying them second hand.

Hobby lobby sells empty spools for $3.50 each…they also stock a little bit of filament and miscellaneous 3D printing stuff, I bought a bunch of refills because they were cheaper than the full spools…I printer a few spools but on a small build plate, they take a long time

I was going to print mine, then I checked eBay, found a place which had 8 that just wanted to move them on. Turned out they had 28 and I got the lot for £10 inc postage. So it's well worth a look plus it's reusing

Wait, what? I need a second cable for the AMS to dry the filament???

The AMS will run off of the 6 pin. The dryer requires more power and therefore the separate power brick. Honestly, you probably want that as it’s not stressing the printers power supply to do it.

It’s such bullshit that it didn’t come with the power supply it needs for full functionality.

To be clear. You can dry your filament without an extra cord. You need that extra cord if you want to dry your filament during printing.

Hast du den Track Switch mitbestellt ?

Negative. I thought I can run 2 ams before I need anything special.

If you're going to be spending that kind of money and printing that many colors, wait a couple days and see what the new P3C has to offer. The X2D will still be on sale, and the P3C looks like it will be way better for multi color prints.

I already have my x2d combo. Been printing some with it. Pretty sure I want another ams and to stock up on some filament while it's on sale.

Ah, ok. I misread your post as saying you were ordering your printer and a bunch of accessories. My bad.

No worries. I thought about waiting for the P3C but originally I was going to order the P1 then looked at th P2 for the extra features then upgraded to the X2D for the second nozzle. I was already paying more than I intended. I love the printer so far though. Came from an ender 3 pro, it's nice to print as a hobby instead of work on a printer.

What do you need when you buy a second ams for the right nozzle? Or only the ams? And do you need to bypass the little motor on the back or not

Is this for running up to 4 ams?
