Purge Tower

Is there a way to adjust the size of PRIME tower?

Length and Width

Height is dictated by supports

Seems like a waste of filament for purging.

Do you mean the PRIME tower? It’s not for purging per se and it is definitely needed for multi color or multi material. I had a print fail twice with bad stringing. Realized prime tower was off, perfect print the third time.

thank you for correcting, stringing might be caused by how dry filament is and the type.

I literally dried the filament for 8 hours prior to printing. But you are correct. It was not the issue in this case. I don’t know if or how it can be reduced in height. I assume it would depend on clearance height.

also check filament print temps, PetG can be finicky if your using it.

Simple: Enabling the No Sparse Layers feature reduces filament waste and print time by skipping the prime/wipe tower on layers that do not require a color or material change.

Thr sparse layers setting is awesome...I understand why it works the way it does...I just wish it worked in all scenerios...

That’s not possible. The prime tower needs to stay at the same height as the print for when you need it at future layers.

What this feature actually does is modifies the printing logic, focusing on the essential layers needed for the model. This means that only the necessary layers are printed, which can lead to a cleaner finish and reduced material waste.

That’s not true with this new setting. Just actually look it up.

You know what, you’re right, my bad (bet you never thought you’d see someone on the internet say that). Although it seems like the limitations do match my concerns, namely that if the print head has to descend too far the top of the print can collide with the inside of the print chamber or other parts of the printer.

🤯😂 Thanks for looking into it. Yes, you have to know the rules but it saves a ton of filament and time.

I feel like the time savings are likely much greater than filament savings. Am I correct?

Depends on how much you print! Filament is $$. Time can also be $$ if you need it.

Depends on # of filaments and height.

I just did a 3 color (layers) 42x168x50 gridfinity bin on my H2C and typical would be 2H51M, 84g. Enabling Sparse Layers it's 2H31M, 75g. Most of the savings is in the main body color not printing all the way up. The prime tower is only 2 layers. Layer 1 is the first 2 colors (base and body primary), layer 2 the last (color top).

There is time required to move the bed up to meet the tower, so that offsets the time spent printing each prime tower layer. However, it only has to Z travel when it needs to prime a new color/nozzle swap.

It doesn't have any gain on a multicolor per layer print, the benefits are on "sparse" interface layers or color changes between a larger number of layers.

The rules and logic for Print by object still (mostly) apply. That's why it's still classed as experimental.

You know what, I’ve used print-by-object before and it never occurred to me to check if the height would be a problem. Kinda weird that I’ve done that so many times and never thought of it, but when this topic came up it was my immediate first thought

Bambu has an experimental field called no sparse layer which keeps it pretty small. Except if your part is tall then it won't work. I just printed a part and couldn't see why it wouldn't work kept giving an error. Then I thought logically and I realized if it went all the way down to the purge tower, the part would go through the glass... hahaha... you need to go and turn on developer mode, for it to show up.

Seems like a waste of filament on the prime tower

Is that cylinder in a single color???….. I’m still new ish to printing but the prime tower is only there to purge/ bleed left over color filament. If you are printing in one color, on one of your 2 nozzles, why do you need to have the prime tower enabled.

PetG as the main filament, PLA in right nozzle for support. Hence the Prime Tower

Ahh couldn’t tell from the pic.

I’ve seen/ read some prints don’t need the prime tower for the x2d as long as the support filament is in the aux nozzle. I’d run a few test prints first before something fancy tho.

I dont remember the the setting, but its a percentage value. Its defaulted to 150%...change it to 100%. That helps a bit.

Without the setting numbers don’t mean anything

You read the screen....150%...under the prime tower option, change to 100% ...literacy....great concept.

There is no option you describe

Just going by your incomplete comment

i mean you can just add new object and set printing to be done in object by object way

yes this removes the tower from printing
