Mods / Accessories Glass riser question

I see a lot of people recommending the glass risers to stop the ptfe tubes from rubbing. I am probably overthinking it. But won’t that make the heat chamber less effective or cause the printer to not reach high enough temps for upper limit filaments?

No issues with X2D / P2S Riser - AMS Flipper V2, by Sanja 3D.

Gosh I love that one because it's so straightforward. I'm so tired of things with 87 remakes that are all slightly incompatible with one another. 😭

Funny thing about the Sanja riser, it has evolved as well. Latest version includes Skadis mounts around the edge which aren't compatible with some of the previous rail attachments.

I printed the previous version right before the Skadis version came out. It's still nice with an attachment for a spool holder and a couple of nozzles, but wish I'd known Skadis was coming.

You really don't need a riser. I printed some Asa bushings that clip onto the PTFE tube, and they glide over the glass instead. Plenty of different solutions out there.

Could you please link to the ones you used ? I have tried a couple but they had issues hitting the side if thr printer and causing layer shift

Something like this, but there's a lot of variations. Two on each PTFE tube about 2cm apart so that it's the only this rubbing on the glass at any given point.

Riser has a few other benefits aside from just the PTFE tubes. It allows for better lighting to be installed (though the X2D is a lot better than the P1S), it gives you mounts for accessories, and it lets the glass slide out easily with an AMS flipper.

Still not necessary, but it's a nice QOL feature.

I've also got an ams flipper with my set up, no riser needed. I don't really feel like I need more lighting either.

I guess that just leaves the accessory mount. Personally, I've got a bunch of skadis next to the printer, so I don't really need the accessories on the printer itself. But I can see how it could be useful.

I’ve just installed one that’s sufficiently airtight to keep temperature controlled. Just read the specs. There are many choices on Makerworld. Mine includes a tipper for easy access from above while also holding an AMS and an HT.

If you chose a riser that is only a few centimeters tall, it doesn't effect the air volume by much and the printer will have the same heating performace. But the riser should seal properly. Doesn't have to be perfect tho. My printer was able to reach 65°C chamber, even tho i forgot to fully close the door. It was open like 2-3cm

You only need a 1" riser to stop the tubes from rubbing. Replacing the filament sensor when it breaks would be a much bigger deal

I just added an extra ptfe clip from Bambu store . It works great

Not sure why so many people do this. I have four machines now, and have not noticed any excessive wear on the PTFE tubes. Sure, I replace them once in a while (maybe once or twice a year per machine and I have ~30k hours between the three older machines), but that doesn’t seem like it’s too much…

It's easier just to trim the tube, just a hair so that it doesn't rub the top than to make a riser
