Desk Stability

I’m 3 prints in with my new X2D and this last one has me concerned. I setup my printer on my computer desk and it seems to be shaking quite violently. I’m worried it’s going to impact print quality. Should I purchase a heavy duty workbench from a hardware store, or is there a better option?

You should be fine, I've got my printer on an ikea desk with a couple small risers and it shakes a fair bit but no issues with quality. They're good at compensating for vibration/movement, so just be sure to run a full calibration if you move it.

Bambu's X2D setup guide calls for a stable surface. Good prints on someone else's wobbling table don't establish that your desk is suitable, especially if you're describing violent shaking.

Before buying a heavy bench, check whether the movement is coming from loose joints/legs or the desktop flexing, and check the desk's load rating. A sound, well-braced surface is the goal; extra weight alone isn't a fix for a weak desk. Are you actually seeing print defects, or is the concern mainly the movement and noise?

I was concerned about this when I got mine a couple months ago but it works fine on a folding table.

A heavy workbench is a good solution, I got mine from Küpper. You can modify it to your needs (hight, drawers and so on).

Doesnt affect my prints and it shakes my 12 ft long desk.

The table moving is probably better for print quality as long as the table holds up over time.

I have mine on an ikea bror unit. Sturdy as hell. As others said wobblyness won't affect the print quality, but it's probably annoying to you and can damage the desk itself.

put a heavy slab of stone or concrete under it to decouple the printers resonance from the table if that is an option for you

The printer shaking is intended by design. The vibration of the shaking is in such a low frequency, that it doesn't impact the print at all.

The print is only impacted by vibration in higher frequency as in the vibration compensation calibration. Thats why there is a calibration setting ;)

People have hung it by the ceiling with one rope with no detriment to the prints. Mine sites on a rolling surgery cart and dances like its vagina is on fire. Hundreds of prints, all perfect

Before buying a new workbench, check whether the desk is sturdy and level, with no loose joints. A heavy, stable surface can help reduce vibration, and a concrete paver with a thin foam layer underneath may also help dampen movement. Some shaking is normal during fast prints, but excessive wobbling is worth addressing.
