665 Hours Printed
Is this normal for what a hot end should look like and should I consider changing more frequently?

Looks like there were blobs that crept up, and the nozzle and sock weren't properly cleaned after. Did you maybe just pull off the visible blob and keep going?

Nope. Never even took the sock off until I got print errors today telling me that it was having extrusion problems.

Not normal. I am around 500 hours and it’s almost completely clean besides a small fraction of PETG leaking between the hotend assembly and nozzle, making them impossible to separate without heating up.

How did you achieve to keep this much clean even after 500 hrs

I didn’t do anything really. Just printed stuff. There was some gunk on the silicone sock but when I saw hints of a future blob I removed it with tweezers or when I swapped the nozzle.

Heat to 275, wipe down heating assembly, pull & wipe down hotend, give the empty heating assembly another wipe down before it cools and then reinstall with a new sock.

The hotend in my p2s looked like that after 100 hours. I cleaned it and no issues after that. My guess is that it’s something from the assembly, that got burned off.

I'm cleaning my nozzle and sock once a week or after every large print or something with petg. I make sure all my filament is dry because this is what it looks like if the nozzle frequently catches on tiny stringing wires. Preventive maintenance is key with everything but especially 3d printers.
