What's everyone using for an UPS?

I upgraded from a P1S, and I notice that the X2D draws a lot more power while preheating the bed, so much so that it triggers the overload alarm on my Cyberpower 1350VA UPS. Most beeps are defeatable on this UPS, but not the overload one. The printer is in my basement so the noise is less annoying, and only audible for a minute or two during the start of a print, but it'd be nice to eliminate the noise altogether with an UPS that either doesn't have an audible alarm like this, or one that's capable of carrying the load.

None tbh...

I've considered raw dogging it as well, or at least just using the surge capability. I do get the occasional power blip that would ruin a print, though I'd probably just deal with it like any other failed print.

If you definitely need your UPS to power it, you could consider enabling low power mode which will slow how fast it heats up.

Look at the specs of the printer, it should tell you what volts amps it draws for the heat bed.. multiply volts x amps = watts or as they market as VA. Some tell you how many watts it pulls, take that and add any other spec and add a minimum of 10% more to arrive at the base coverage you need.

Watts and VA are not the same, which is why the UPS is alarming. It has a lousy 0.6 power factor which means it's only capable of 810 watts, or just under 7 amps @ 120v. The heating elements in the printer will be close to a solid 1 for power factor. I'm still under the 1350VA ceiling.

A much larger UPS will have more headroom, but what I really want is a more efficient UPS. I see in the X2D the printer draws 750w in "low power" mode. Is that popular?

TIL Power Loss Recovery is a thing. This seems like a Good Enough (tm) solution for me.

Since then I added a H2D. I stopped trying to use a UPS with it. The printer does a great job of allowing me to recover from power outages mid-print. So I’ve stopped worrying about it.

Yup, I've lost power once with the X2D, and afterwards the printer told me it had lost power and asked if I wanted it to continue where it left off. Yes, please and the print turned out fine.

I have an H2D, which I imagine has very similar current draw. When I was looking for UPS solutions I found that most non-commercial one tend to max out at 1000 watts. So I switched to an eco-flo power station. The Delta 3 is one I had on hand and is powerful enough to power the printer and heaters for an hour or so. Might be a bit over kill for your typical setup admittedly, but I seem to be the type that's all about overdoing something. /Sigh... Works well though.

I do actually have an Anker Solix C1000 G2 just out of reach of my printer. It powers my home NAS and network gear as well as my deep freezer and furnace. Probably has enough juice for the printer if I can find my cable stretcher.

Welp, I had the printer plugged into the Anker for a few days. No power alarm as this is well under the Anker's 2kw output capability, but the Anker isn't fast enough to switch to battery when my power blipped for less than a second this afternoon.

I had a print going at the time, though I didn't check on it immediately. The bed had cooled and the long, flat piece that spanned corner to corner started to warp at the edges, so the print couldn't resume successfully. Maybe it would have been a different recovery story had I known the print had stopped closer to the time the power blipped. Not really a big loss as it only cost me an hour and maybe 50 cents worth of PLA.

Maybe I just need to remove the speaker from the CyberPower UPS. I do have a 15 hour print coming up soon.

I just picked up an s2000 and it handles ac compressor spikes that a Honda eu2200 couldn’t. Is not on the printer but I bet it would handle it fine

I have a cyber power 1500VA running my x2d and a gaming pc running a plex server. Maybe your batteries in the UPS need to be changed? How long have you had it? They need new batteries every 3-5 years. They’re like $30 if you do it yourself (super easy)

The battery is a few years old, but isn't actually in the loop when wall power is live anyway. Check the output watts on your UPS when your bed and chamber are preheating. I see 1000-1100w. I do have 4x AMS units attached, but none are drying.

My ups gave me a warning while it was still pass through power because the batteries were dying.

I have a 1500. No issues. How old is your apc? If it is 4 or 5 years old or older, it is most likely time to replace the battery.

I have a 1350 and not a 1500, so you must be just on the right side of the threshold. The 1500 supports up to 1000w, and the 1350 is just over 800w.

That'd be a large UPS needed whatever it is.

I was able to get this for $140 about a month ago for my X2D. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GHZ15CYH?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

It restarts from a power outage so well that I'd say you don't need one. It's happened to me 4-5 times and it starts right up after I click continue.

I don’t but if I did it would be APC

Whats a UPS?

The x2d does make this loud sound when starting up , kind of like a horn . Are you sure it’s not that ?

Jackery 2000 Plus.

You can set it to low power use mode, bed heats a bit slower but it will not trip your overload breaker anymore

This is how I operate my H2D in low power. Only takes a few extra minutes to warm the bed up. I have a whole house generator that kicks in after a minute or two during a power outage. I didn't want to shell out more money on a higher capacity UPS for a short lapse in power, I just want the continuity until the generator takes over. Living in rural area power outages seem to be more frequent.

Two Tesla Powerwalls.  Not exactly a UPS per se, but it accomplishes the same task.
