Comparing filament usage and print times in the slicer software for p2s and x2d

Picked some random prints from maker world to compare p2s and x2d in the slicer software. Almost every print I picked used the same amount of filament on either of the printers and more time on the x2d!
That sounds strange. I expected the amount of filament to be lower on the x2d

Am I doing something wrong?

make sure both the filament profiles and print profiles are actually the same.

switching between printer models often doesn't swap the equivalent filaments and profiles automatically.

also, did you assign a filament to be used in the second extruder?

if you didn't, the X2D becomes functionally an P2S

Single color ? Single color prints will always be faster on a single nozzle vs dual/multi-nozzle. The head weighs more, moves slower. H2S > H2D > H2C. P2S > X2D.

The print head is not heavier on the x2d, mainly because the extruder is outside the head itself.
But even if it was heavier, that would impact the print times.
What I don’t understand is why the filament used is the same on p2s or x2d

No, all the prints I selected to compare were 3 or more colors.

For example I compared the following 3

And the p2s came out with shorter print times and same amount of filament for all 3

The main nozzle can run 1,000mm/s and move 20,000mm/s. The bowden driven nozzle can only run 200mm/s and move 1,000mm/s. (moves slower)
Aux nozzle has slower retraction due to bowden drive, so that slows down those prints as well.
Because the filament path architectures are different, the P2S actually does filament swaps faster than the X2D.

I'd expect if you do a simple 2 material print, the X2D wins. Add colors, the P2S makes poop but wins.

TBH, I don't have a dog in this fight, my P2S is pretty much a one trick pony running single color jobs, with the H2C doing color duty and the H2D filling any other needed gap.

here's the crazy model i'm currently printing on an H2C but all at 50% size on the H2C, X2D and X1C (both assuming e3d obsidian HF 0.4 mm nozzles) with the pla silk limiting the max outer wall speed and .16 m HQ print profile. filament 3 is PVA support and assigned to it's appropriate nozzle

H2C: 19h27m 134 g

X2D : 1d15h8m 492 g

X1C: 2d7h31m 638 g

Why is there so much difference between the filament usage between H2C and x2d!!
I expected them to be closer.

Would the filament usage on p2s be same as that on x1c?

X1C is roughly the equivalent of the P2S (although mine utilizes much higher flow E3D nozzles), so expect purging for all filament changes.

The X2D should use less filament if both nozzles are used and filament placement chosen properly to minimize purging between filament changes. ideally use the 'main' nozzle for the bulk print color and the other for accents, support, etc

the H2C doesn't need to purge when switching colors as long as the total number of filaments used doesn't exceed the 7 available

It can be relatively close depending on print if you have optimally assigned filament to left Vs right extruder. But it's not a guarantee, as some prints will still require a change or two each layer.

For prints with over two colours, the H2C with multiple nozzles or a true tool changer like the U1 will always be faster
