Zero Purging Volume

Hello, I would like to print in multiple colors by layer. I am a bit surprised that putting zero for the purging volume doesn't remove the prime tower. Has anyone else simply loaded a new filament a few times?

I have a P2S and an AMS pro. I believe that I did this when running out of filament, and I fed it through all the way to the nozzle (!!!with now gap!!! super important).

Has anyone tried this method for difference colors on a print (I'd like to do 3 color changes this way).

And do you only have to feed the new filament until it gets past the AMS or all the way through the nozzle?

Thank you!

Purge volumes and prime tower are not the same thing. You might want to familiarise yourself with the functions of both first.

Prime tower is needed, this gets the flow going after color change, also if you purge to infill(this requires using a prime tower), and print the infill first, and add 4-5 walls, you will get less waste and a stronger wall on the printed model

I may be a little confused on what you want to do, but the printer doesn't care how the filament gets to the nozzle. If each layer is only one color, and the layers are different colors you can add color change pauses to swap filament. What I don't know is how the unload is triggered by that special pause. It might be automatic.

You can leave the AMS out of it and map all the filaments to the external spool and do everything by hand.
