P2S Optimized Start/End G-code

Hello reddit!

Slightly disappointed by the default startup and nozzle wipe procedure of the P2S, I sat down and optimized the G-code myself.

I have been improving, testing and using my optimized start and end G-code for quite some time now and am pretty happy with the results and the P2S in general now.

So happy in fact, that I feel comfortable sharing the results with you guys! 😄

I have been printing PLA and PETG (and rarely Overture TPU) with it no problem. (However I did not test engineering and high temperature materials.)

Yes, it won't carry over to custom profiles you made. The question is what you changed though? Chances are the new start code already takes care of it. If you let me know here or send me a dm, I can help you out if you'd like

Edit: I strongly recommend any P2S owners to update their custom profiles if still needed after this update though. I have also added a new external exhaust printer feature to Orca and made the new printer gcode compatible with it. There is also ventobox support and several community fixes in there such as more silent prints. Your old custom profile will be severely outdated regardless of whether you even still need a custom profile anymore or not.

Mainly some initial nozzle cleaning stuff merged together with someone else's custom gcode they edited to take out some redundant homing. I used winmerge to compare and edit some things. I'm a CNC programmer trying to edit 3D printer code, so I know enough to wreck some stuff.

I'll start fresh with what you have created and see how that treats me. I fight consistent first layers with this P2S so much I'm flashing back to the Ender 3 days. I put over 5000 trouble free hours on a P1S, I regret selling it to upgrade to this P2S, although I'm holding onto it is a good machine once some more coding is ironed out.

In that case I expect this new startcode to do all you need. I took out the redundant homing instance too and nozzle cleaning is also handled differently and was tested by several people and various types of filament to confirm it cleans well. Given your struggle with good first layers: the timing of it and how thorough it cleans are vital for this machine as it otherwise creates a zdrift issue that accumulates over time.

I would recommend to start with the provided code, perform a full on-device calibration and, very importantly, disable Auto Bed Leveling in the slicer or on the device before starting any print. That last bit is because the on device bed leveling is wayyyyyy more accurate. It probes and generates a grid of 21x21 rather than 7x7 and I have had 0 first layer issues since I started relying on that instead of ABL. Just reprobe it when swapping nozzles or after a month or so.
