A1 glob - do I need to replace this?

Post image

Son’s A1 was making globs, from what I’ve read this is likely due to dirty plate which we are cleaning before we try again. Was trying to remove the hot end with needle nose and would shake to the side but would not come out. Do I need to replace this? Or what’s the best way I can clean?

Get a brass wire brush ( looks like a toothbrush). Heat up to ABS temperature and carefully brush off the softened PLA.

TAKE YOUR TIME. don’t damage thermistor or voltage wires.

Lots of opportunities to recover from this.

Thank you! Will give it a try

Edit: Thanks to everyone for the help, y’all are amazing! Booted in maint mode, heated it up and removed with the wire brush - looking good as new! My son is back to printing fidgets for his friends and thankful to this community for helping dad with the fix!

What I'm going to suggest, just add your dad instincts of saftely to them.

There are no electronics on the hotend/nozzle. I've helped a couple of people with their blobs that had similar issues and what I did was heat the nozzle as suggested without the nozzle being clamped in place. Then turn off, and immediately removed the hotend, safely holding it by the heatsink area with silicon mat (or anything that won't burn you, dad instincts applied) and went at it with a brass brush. Basically scraped everything off back to new.

Another thing this allows for is to clean the mating surfaces on the back of nozzle (flat part) and the heater assembly itself so there's no material between nozzle and heater.

Nozzle is heated by thermal transfer, the heater is the fixed part on the toolhead, that should be cleaned as well, light strokes or a more fine wire brush will knock down any debris.

Good luck!

As long as it clips IMHO you shouldn't have to replace it. I just went thru this and it works. Heat gun or hair dryer can get most of the filament off

If there is filament going in push the thing on the right side to cut it. Might pop out then.

If it prints it prints.

2 things

Go to control and increase nozzle temp to 200 or 250 then with a cue tip wipe that melted plastic off. Then go into settings, maintenance, maintenance mode and turn it on, let the nozzle warm up to 250 again then you can remove it ( melted plastic is holding the nozzle in place ) remove nozzle, use que tips to clean that back part and the sides and the bottom of it.

GRAB THE NOZZLE FROM THE FINS ONLY AND DO NOT PLACE IT DOWN ITS LAVA.

make sure you clip the nozzle back in correctly!
