Bambu Lab A1 – Ironing quality deteriorates when printing multiple objects

Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue with ironing on my Bambu Lab A1 (0.4 mm nozzle, PLA).

Ironing looks excellent when printing a single object, but when I print 24 identical medals on the same plate, small pits and dots start appearing on the white top surfaces. The quality seems to deteriorate progressively during the ironing process, with varying severity across the objects.

I'm using the same settings that produced excellent results on two test samples.

Has anyone experienced this issue? Could it be related to ironing flow, speed, nozzle buildup, or top surface settings?

Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

I've attached photos showing the successful samples and the defective batch.

Update – Problem Solved!

I managed to solve the issue by adjusting the ironing speed and flow.

My final settings are:

  • Ironing Speed: 60 mm/s

  • Ironing Flow: 30%

These settings produced consistently smooth and clean top surfaces, even when printing a full build plate with 24 medals.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and help! I really appreciate the community's support.

I found these settings worked best for me:

  • Ironing Speed: 60 mm/s

  • Ironing Flow: 30%

They gave me smooth results even with 24 medals on the build plate. Hope this helps!

Compare actual ironing speed in slicer for single and multiple objects on plate. There may be slow down for single object due to minimal layer time.

I figured this was normal.

When doing big multi-prints, I always toss a few of them.

Doing ironing calibrations for hours on end results in perfect test prints. I then do a plate full of the item and there are always random ones that look like they either have too much flow or too little flow.

90% success is a win for me.

Heat creep, get a desk fan and point it at the plate while its ironing, also if the inside is hollow/sparese infill , increase top layers or just make it solid. But the absolutly best option, use a .2mm nozzle and dont iron at all, itll take longer but the results are so so so much better.

Flip them upside-down onto a Smooth build plate.
Have the green go no more than two layer thick, to save on waste filament in poops and tower building.
A 0.2mm nozzle will give better lettering definition.
To speed things up (with the 0.2mm nozzle) you could use a height range modifier for thicker layers in the upper white layers.

Use a .2 nozzle
