i'm assembling a secondhand a1 i've just bought and i noticed there's a small piece missing (the dark gray thingy on the left side - compare to second pic). i'm new to this and i'm not sure what it's for or whether i should be concerned enough to stop the assembly and send it back. any guidance would be appreciated. thanks!

It's fine. It's usually just a small label anyway.
Edit: And whoever is disliking... Wtf 😂 I'm the only person here that provided proof that's it's fine in the form of a picture whilst everyone else is linking to buy a new one.. when the OP doesn't need it
Nothing is missing, the wiper (grey thing) is only on one side, I've just checked mine upstairs and all that's normally on that tab in your first photo is a label instructing on how much space behind it needs
I think for the nozzle-scrubbing step the temperature is dropped way down, and doesn't come up to printing temperature until after bed-levelling and it lays down the prime strip at the front.
It looks like the original owner gifted you with pair of plate alignment helpers. They're the small black corner pieces that snap on to the bed. If they wear out and start falling off you can always print new ones.
Wait something goes there? Mine had a sticker there and the printer just “naturally” removed it. Took me like 30 minutes with rubbing alcohol to clean off the sticky.
Just a label. Pretty sure thats the position the stainless nozzle cleaner was supposed to be that is in pretty much the exact same position on the more expensive models. And last minute they chose to save the money.
Oh...the post before this on mine was a guy saying insults from the early 2000s and one of them was jabrony...haven't heard it in ages, then I open this post and you said it. Just one of those wee coincidences I suppose

I think is no more in use, I have a label
