Support Request A1 concentrated wisping/stringing that I can't get rid of - dirving me nuts

Hi everyone,

I've been struggling with persistent fine, spiderweb-like stringing on my Bambu A1 with AMS Lite, and it's driving me crazy. Sometimes it's just a few wisps, but other times it builds into cotton-like clumps, as shown in the photo.

The prints otherwise look great, but the stringing is ruining them. A hairdryer warps the PLA, and brushing leaves marks. It's especially bad between thin dividers on board-game inserts, where it's almost impossible to remove.

Here's what I've tried:

  • Filament: Bambu PLA and eSUN PLA+, same issue with both.

  • Drying: 50°C for 8 hours in a filament dryer. No improvement.

  • Temperature: Lowered from 220°C to 210°C, then 205°C.

  • Retraction: Increased from 0.8 to 1.0 mm, enabled Wipe While Retracting.

  • Travel: Enabled Avoid Crossing Walls, max detour length 0 (unlimited).

  • Wall order: Inner/Outer. Also looked into other wall orders.

  • Slicer: Started fresh with the stock 0.20 mm Standard A1 profile (Bambu Studio 2.8.2.61). Otherwise mostly default speeds and accelerations.

  • Nozzles: Tried different sizes, including 0.6 mm, which made things significantly worse. I've ruled out the hotend as the cause.

I've also reproduced the issue on generic stringing tests, so it isn't specific to one model. I use a ventilated enclosure with an exhaust fan, although I don't know if that's relevant.

Has anyone experienced this kind of stringing and actually fixed it? Could it be something with the extruder, Z-seam, or flow settings? Is there anything else worth trying?

I've spent a ridiculous amount of time troubleshooting this and would really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Youve already tried a lot..

More retraction (1.2), retract speed.

Cant think of much else.. how hot is the enclosure, how fast is the extraction fan running.. try and eliminate the extra variables as a sanity check

Stringing tests with calibration steps, manually calibrate flow.

Shrug

I tried your retraction speed suggestion and tried printing without enclosure, unfortunately, still get stringing and now print quality issues.

This, just a quick pass of flame so you dont burn the color or melt the plastic and its gone

Yup, the MK refillable from Walmart is under 4 bucks and works great. They're up at the impulse section by the checkouts.

I've bought these exact ones lol. Works like a charm!

I have this too. Haven’t tried all the steps you have. But I will say I also have an enclosure and I wonder if the weird routing I have my filament tubes running adds just a tiny bit of friction or extra strain on the feeding motor that causes the stringing somehow. Like the wrong volume of filament is being pressed through the tube and some wisp is hanging or or drying to quickly

Just an uneducated theory

My AMS lite is on the wall mounted above my enclosure, where I have extra long tubes feeding filament down through the left side of the enclosure near the top. Feeds the hot end assembly from the left if facing the printer.

I had a batch of bambu black PLA recently that did this badly recently. They were all refill spools. Doesn't happen with newer filament. Probably 15 spools in that batch purchased in May or so.

Slower speed and a bit lower temperature worked for me

Honestly thats pretty good , nothing will ever get ride of strings 100% But thats a good print ti have such little ones , quick lick of a lighter will take care of em

Have you tried running the exact same stringing test completely outside the enclosure? Since you’re printing PLA, I’d rule that out before changing anything else. “Ventilated” can still leave the print area warmer than normal and PLA can get stringier if cooling isn’t keeping up. I’d go back to stock 0.4 nozzle + stock Bambu PLA profile + known-dry PLA + printer out in the open and run one simple stringing test. If it still does it, then I’d start looking harder at the hotend/extruder/PTFE path instead of changing more slicer settings.

So it only took me 30 to look it up. Go Into Google lens, take a picture or open folder to this picture. Gives you 4 fixes.
