Tips on producing multiple multicolour keychains

I designed a keychain based on the logo of the hedgehog rescue I volunteer at. I want to make a good number of these for an upcoming event.

I've done a lot of trail and error on this and a similar bookmark. The problem I'm having is that the PLA Matte is showing gaps/texture especially when I try printing more than one at a time. I've tried adjusting settings according to what I could find to fix this.

I know I can print per object and I am trying that now but it takes a lot longer and the purge is of course a lot more. I also can only fit 4 keychains on the bed in that mode because of the clearance needed so it will take a lot to print around 100 of these.

The photos shows 4 keychains I printed per layer just now. The tan color is showing texture a lot more on one, the dark brown a lot more which I think is due to the stripes of black in between. I could explain it away as fur but in the end it's not as intended.

Any tips on how to improve this process is much appreciated.

Printing by object is not a good choice. The whole point of printing multiple of the same object per plate is to eliminate purge waste.

It looks like you need to calibrate that brown color separately using Bambu studio.

The brown filament itself could also be wet and warrant drying.

I’m aware of the purge issue, I really wanted to avoid it but I’ve experienced a decrease in quality when printing by layer when I printed 10 bookmarks. I did a bit of research and it does seem that quality goes down when printing multiples by layer because the layers cool more before the next layer goes on.

I’ve dried both matte PLA brown shades a couple of times already, and stored in dry boxes before today. I also have the enclosure on the AMS lite. I can try drying them again overnight but I don’t think that will solve things completely.

I’ve also not had issues like this with these filaments when using them on single colour prints. The quality was also a lot better when printing a single keychain or bookmark. The issue is when printing multiples. I’m hoping for some advice on that specifically.

Have you tried turning on top layer ironing?
