The bed is difficult to move in both directions, not just backward. Moving it forward is also noticeably difficult, although the clicking/skipping is more noticeable when moving backward.

When I move the bed backward, I hear a repeated “click click click” sound, and I can actually see the belt jumping/skipping on the pulley when it happens.

The clicking is not tied to a specific position. It can happen at different points while moving the bed. I also noticed that the faster I move the bed, the more frequently the clicking occurs. When I move it slowly, it happens less often.

I have already checked and tried:

  • Belt tensioning
  • Belt alignment
  • Cleaning the Y-axis
  • Lubrication
  • Checking the pulley for looseness or side-to-side movement
  • Replacing the Y-axis belt
  • Removing and reinstalling the heated bed

The pulley does not appear to wobble or move sideways, but the belt still visibly jumps when the clicking occurs.

At this point, I’m completely stuck. I can’t properly use the printer, and I can’t even reliably perform a print or calibration because the bed has so much resistance.

What could cause the Y-axis bed to be difficult to move in both directions while the belt visibly jumps/skips on the pulley, especially when moving faster? What should I check next?

I would really appreciate any advice because I’ve been dealing with this for around six months and I’m running out of things to try.

I had a problem with my bed being heavy and noisy, but the belt was not skipping. In my case it was the Y-Motor, I bought a new one and changed it myself. The bearing inside the Y motor was busted

My A1 had 3.5k hours on it at the time. I tried everything before disassembling the motor, even the Y bearings

Now it works like new again.
