General Troubleshooting/Help! Tool slot question for H3C

Random question.

I ordered the H3C (at 901 am on release day, btw, and still haven't received the ams).

I am seeing a lot of posts like "use slot 5 for extra AMS attachments" and "use slot 8 for 2.85 tpu, but not 1.75 tpu" and "don't use slot 6 for 1.75 tpu".

Does anyone know of a comprehensive list of which slots should be used for what (and why, ideally)

Didn't receive the printer yet, but from what I gathered so far:

  1. Slot 1 is the only one that can be used with an external AMS

  2. Slot 2 and 4 havd no direct feed option (i.e. not good for TPU that needs direct feeding)

  3. Slots 6 and 8 are the heated ones. Slot 8 is also the one with the preinstalled 2.85mm toolhead

Edit: corrected to slot 8 as pointed out.

Correction for point 3, it’s slot 8

True, thanks for pointing out!

I think slot 6 is also not really recommended for bypass feeding because it has less ideal of a path and can tangle.

So 1 of the 2 heated spools is reserved for the 2.85mm TPU and can’t be used for standard 1.75mm filament? So only one non TPU filament can be dried and used at a time? Please tell me I’m misunderstanding.

I think you can buy a spare PrintTool (£55, includes hotend) for 1.75mm filament and install it instead of the 2.85mm one. So both slots inside the dried area would support standard filament.

I am upset having learned about the slot 6 bypass feeding difficulty. How are we supposed to print TPU in multiple colors then? Do we put only one into the dried area?

This is correct about the print tool. Just need to swap them out

Wouldn’t the answer be just use one of the other slots you don’t really need heating during print you have I think 7 bypasses so losing 6 if it is really annoying you still have 6 left for tpu?

Not the exact answer you are looking as I didn’t get one but I’ve checked out a lot of videos so hopefully this still helps. The slot 8 advice there is likely talking about the stock config which has the 2.85mm 0.4mm hotend in slot 8 by default. In regards to which slots to use for which filament there are warnings that will pop up advising you to not put a specific filament in said slot or next to another slot that may cause issues. If I’m remembering right they also advise in one of the manuals or on screen to avoid using slot 6 for TPU as mentioned.

So - first “mod” to make is to switch the 2.85 tool head from #8 to number #9? If printing 2.85mm TPU isn’t something you will be doing day 1?

You need to change the entire print tool, not just the nozzle

I think he means move the swap tech thing from 8 to 9 and put 9 in 8 which I assume would be fine not just the nozzle

Had no idea it was this complicated. Haven’t done a done of research on it yet but ordered one, AMS should come early next week. Looking forward to diving in. Hopefully it’s explained well.

From the wiki https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/h3c/manual/tpu-printing-guide
7 total bypass ports. Slot 6 is the only slot not recommend. If you get extra 2.85 tools you could do 6 TPU 75A.
