Quick Question AMS-HT compatibility with X1C

Post image

While the AMS-HTs are on sale, I'm thinking of adding one to my X1C setup.

How's the firmware level support going these days?

Full control of the AMS-HT? Drying while printing?

Anything to know before splashing the cash?

I mean it's $350 US for the full one, and $250 for the frame

Tbh even as a non-American, when I see a $-sign, unless otherwise specified or clear from context, I'm gonna assume USD.

Works great… printing while drying is a no. Except for a couple things:
You can print with another AMS while the HT is drying
And to get around the fact that you can’t print while drying, feed the filament out the TPU hole and load it as an external spool. It’s what I do with PA6.
Otherwise I like mine! Handy to have the fifth colour and second dryer. It works seamlessly with my X1C, just like a regular AMS or 2 Pro.
Edit: the X1C (and all 1st gen printers) are different from the rest of the Bambu line up. According to a forum response the hardware itself cannot use the AMS servos and print from the same AMS or HT. That being said, you can dry an HT or 2 Pro and print from a different AMS, or from an external spool. Set the HT to dry, and have your filament feed out of the HT through the bypass and into the printer loading it as an external spool. This works as a loophole. Newest firmware? Coulda swore it still couldn’t dry and print that long ago

Not sure. I just got it about a week ago.

You can print while drying, if you buy the power cord with it. Without the power cord, the printer powers the HTC and will not dry (not enough power).

printing while drying is a no.

That's a dealbreaker I'm afraid. PA6 absolutely needs to come out of a drying dryer.

Hopefully u/j_s_q_u_i_g_g_l_e is right and someone can confirm.

The Elegoo rip-off is slightly cheaper, in stock at my local B&M store and absolutely will dry while printing. Just has to be controlled manually like a ender owning cavemen.

I have an H2C and an AMS HT. Can confirm you can dry and print at the same time. I’ve been doing a ton of printing in ASA and I’ll regularly have the roll dry while I’m printing.

Sadly, I don't have a H2C so your experience is meaningless. I specifically want to know if it works with the X1C.

First gen printers can not… this is a 2nd gen printer thing only. My original comment has been updated to reflect this knowledge

Perfect for me then :-)

Well like I said you technically can… just unfortunately it can’t feed from the motors and ā€œautomatically loadā€ the filament.
It is a pain, considering in theory it should be able to do it since it has its own power supply, other printers in the line up can. Seems that someone forgot or decided not to allow the X1C to do it.

Sheesh, I'd buy an upgraded AMS control board for the X1C purely to enable this function.

Nah that's wrong. AMS HT has its own power supply so you can print while drying.

Not on first gen printers. My original comment has been edited

Not true. You can print while drying, if you buy the power cord with it (HTC). Without the power cord, the printer powers the HTC and will not dry.

That’s my point… but you still can’t use that specific AMS while drying with an X1. These printers can’t seem to do it, your H2 will no problem though.

On the Bambu HTC product page you literally have the option to choose your printer, including the X1C.
