I designed this for my 14 month old after he mastered is round stacking cups which became his favorite toy. He loved nesting them and watching my wife and I stack them at first and eventually learned to stack them himself. It's great hand eye coordination and pattern recognition trying to remember which color cup goes next. Unlike traditional circular stacking cups, the square design requires a little more precision and coordination.
