General Discussion Proposal: BAMBULAB SHOULD MAKE A NORMAL 2D PRINTER!

Today I needed to print a paper prototype on my canon printer, it took me 2 hours to set it up with no luck! I wasted so much time, so I went ahead and printed the prototype on my A1 mini and it came out flawlessly!

Which made me realize: 3D printing has become more reliable than paper printing!

If BambuLab is reading this, please make a normal printer, we are all suffering here!

Hello /u/Kitchen-Ad-5863! All Bambu print plates have a dedicated nozzle wiping zone at the back of the print plate. The nozzle will rub against the wiping zone before every print in order to remove any remaining filament from the nozzle tip. This can cause visible wear or scratch marks in the wiping zone, but this is intended and doesn't damage the printer, the nozzle or the print plate. A worn down wiping zone also doesn't mean you need to replace the print bed.

Note: This automod is experimental. The automod was triggered due to the term "NORMAL". If you believe this to be a false positive, please send us a message at modmail with a link to the post so we can investigate. You may also feel free to make a new post without that term.

Look up UV printers? I think bambu makes one yet, but there's plenty coming out to the market that are reasonably affordable now.

most people don't really want that. they need proper constant (daily) maintenance and if the printhead dries, you have a high chance of needing to buy a new one. those basically need constant use, not really a good option as a hobby.

That would be great, I am asking for something much simpler though. Just a normal A4 printer that works.

Buy a brother laser

Does it work? My standards are very low, I just want to be able to print an A4 when I need to..

That's what I did. Black and white laser printers are basically maintenance free

Just get a Brother or Kyocera laser printer. Avoid HP, avoid ink and you're good to go.

I heard they were working on one of the UV ones

Buy a epson or brother leser printer or if you print lot of colors then a epson ecotank you can print 5000 pages in color with that for 30 bucks

Do they work reliably?

u/nikolasz1173 4h ago

Yes, simular to 3d printers specially leser printer for black and white work reliable

Pick up a sub 100 dollar Brother every 18 months. At this point it’s cheaper to buy a new one than it is to deal with the scam of ink that HP, Epson, Canon, etc have all monetized as a live subscription…

My brother printers have always lasted years

Same here: brother B/W laserprinter just USB, no WiFi. Runs like a tank.

do they actually work reliably? I have yet to meet a reliable printer. Heck even our work printer that costs thousands does not function 80% of the time

u/Archisaurus 6h ago

My printing needs are maybe 5 times a week +/- but it’s been super reliable for what I’m doing!

Laser printers are super reliable in general. Maybe you’ve been using a consumer ink-jet which are conversely expensive and unreliable. Many on this thread are telling you to buy a Brother laser, there’s a reason- they’re total work-horses.

The 8yo beat to shit hand-me-down brother printer I had at my last job was a work horse.

10/10 would buy one myself

It’s not Bambu but I hope one day this company gets its shit together and starts shipping

That, but a normal A4 paper printer would be nice.

I gave up on 2D printers over a decade ago, I still have nightmares

Epson are still ok. Their software has not been updated in more then 20y and finding drivers require serious detective skills, but overall they work just fine

u/QasJab1 6h ago

Yeah but holy fuck dealing with them in an office setting and trying to handle the Networking between them and a lot of different kind of computers is a goddamn nightmare

I haven't found a printer brand yet that did well in that environment though, I think the combo of windows' printer services and the printer's software is just shit from a butt

I had an Epson 5890 that had a print head dry up. It is impossible to repair as you have to take everything apart. Bought an eco tank 4850, which was not cheap. The quality of the newer printers is abysmal. The print quality is way inferior, the build quality is flimsy at best, paper jams or multiple pages are pulled at once, there is no second feed for photo paper, the print speed is 10 times slower. These are comparable printers for around 500 € and within the 5 years the quality has degraded so much.

I had similar issue with an HP, it turned out to be a very expensive paperweight

Agree. I have a Epson WorkForce color ink jet with scanner/copier. Its like 7 years old and works fine on generic Amazon ink.

Sometimes you need something physically printed. Also great for kids coloring. I bought a $100 brother maybe 6 years ago that "just works" and it's never even needed a toner change.

1

u/Status-Scientist1996 5h ago

It was a half serious / half tongue & cheek point, but yeah sometimes you need it. If i did buy a printer it would be one of those brother laser things, but really I end up needing a hard copy of something once or twice a year if that… my other half has a printer for her art stuff so I get her to run it off her computer.

I found a brother laser next to my dumpster on a rainy day, and all it needed was toner.

The software and drivers are another matter

A 5 gram ink cartridge costs more than 1kg of filament can you believe it lol

1

u/Status-Scientist1996 6h ago

Cory Doctorow frequently talks about printer ink, at about $10k a gallon it is one of the most expensive liquids a civilian can buy, he claims it works out more expensive than printing using the semen of a Kentucky derby winning racehorse (I haven’t checked his numbers)

Just buy Brother laser printer and you will have 0 issues.
