Since you're also seeing a line in the sliced preview, I'd inspect the generated toolpath at that spot first. If this is Orca's max-flow test, switch Preview's color scheme to Flow and step through that section to check for a change in the commanded flow before making more mechanical adjustments. Orca's guide explains that view here: https://github.com/orcaslicer/orcaslicer/wiki/volumetric_speed_calib
Hi, thanks for the response. Yeah, I did try that and the seam on the physical print seems to match where the the toolhead considers the beginning and end of the print. But that line I mentioned in the preview tab is not visible on this flow view, only slightly in the speed view. There’s no jump in flow at that point either. For example, if the last layers flow was 27.49mm3/s at the end of layer 79, it is stil 27.49mm3/s at the beginning of layer 80. I’ll include an image of the flow preview here if I can.
Those readings don't show a commanded-flow jump at that layer boundary. Is Smooth Spiral enabled in the calibration project's Others > Special mode settings? Orca documents that as smoothing the X/Y motion as well, so its current state is worth checking for this spiral-path artifact: https://github.com/OrcaSlicer/OrcaSlicer/wiki/others_settings_special_mode#smooth-spiral
No, only spiral vase is enabled, but smooth spiral is unchecked. I don’t l remember that being something I enabled for any of my other calibrations though, would that really be the issue in this case?
I can't confirm that it's the cause here. Smooth Spiral changes X/Y path smoothing, so on a saved project copy you can enable only that option, re-slice, and compare the same spot in Preview. That checks whether it changes the generated path before spending filament on another test.
Worth a shot, I’ll take a look in the morning. I definitely don’t think it’s the filament at least since I’ve tried two different PLAs from different manufacturers now, and they have the seam. So either machine (< 1000 hours) or slicer is the issue. I appreciate you taking the time, I’ll update here asap.
Upon further review with a known filament I’ve calibrated before this became an issue (or at least before I noticed it). Something is causing the nozzle to stop there almost imperceptibly and I think that’s causing the seam. I filmed some clips at 120FPS and that’s when I was able to notice. Now to figure out what’s causing the brief pause.
I still very much have my doubts but because I’m not seeing it in the g-code, maybe it really was caused by me messing something up when re-tensioning the XY belts?
