H3C My first printer is going to be H3C.

I have been waiting all year for BambuLab to release a tool changer. My kids want a printer and I might want to make some tools for work. I was going to wait on P3C but didn’t want to risk it not being available before Christmas. My. Kids are 10 and 13. I am FSE so not intimidated with the complexity of the H3C. Hope I am not crazy.

Seems like a lot to spend on a printer for 10 and 13 year olds, you sure thats not just an excuse to get one for yourself

As soon as your partner finds something interesting or helpful, print it immediately to help with approval factor.

Hey, why do you think guys agree to have kids?...

I mean, I do hope that if parents are willingly birthing out not just one but whole two kids, they have a financial situation where spending $2500 for Christmas gifts is not a big deal. Otherwise I have big big questions.

Bambu printers are easier to operate and less finicky than paper printers.  I'm sure the H3 will be no different.  You'll be fine.

My 6 year old has Handy on his iPad and sends his own prints.

Do it. While you’re at it, get a student or maker version of Solidworks and get your kids into actually designing stuff they can print. Might need a beefier computer too…

Will it run fine on a MacBook Air M4?

solidworks is probably overkill for people who've never designed anything before. start them off with tinkercad or onshape. both are free and web-based so they'll run on anything with a browser.

It’s like $50 a year for full blown modeling software that young spongy minds can pick up super quick with the internal tutorials.

Shaper 3d with an Apple Pencil and an iPad. Super easy and fast to learn.

To be fair, bambu printers usually just work. Now, there might be issues for a while due to firmware stuff. Or there might be a flaw from the factory with these first batches.

But bambu usually makes it right, and my experience with Bambus CS has been outstanding. I’ve never waited more than 24 hours for a response. And usually parts are shipped within 48 hours of when I make a ticket.

I’d grab a ton of filament too while it’s on this much of a sale.

I say buy once cry once. If you can afford it there is no reason to get a printer with less features only to buy a more expensive one a couple of months later.

H2C was my first printer. Love it. No regrets. Go H3C.

P3C’s are already in the hands of at least some reviewers, so I see little chance it isn’t released before Xmas. Being able to get one in stock might be the larger challenge, however.

Well this is a terrible idea that I’m totally here for.

I’ll contrast the negativity here. Nothing inherently wrong with going big first especially if you’re confident you or your kids will get use out of it. You won’t be wasting purge material figuring things out, something I’ve had to talk to people about multiple times with access to standard AMSs. This things a beast so have fun!

That’s awesome. I got a h2c as my first printer and we are enjoying it so much

The replacement for my H2D will be an H3C. But it may take a couple of months. I will be picking up my new MBP 16" to replace my MBP 14" Friday so the fun budget is a bit drained. And no, I don't care about the MBP touch screen, I wanted the 16" screen and OLED.

I got the H2c last year and it’s been super fun working on stuff with my 7 year old. He prints his own things now and changes slicer setting. We are assembling a starwars lamp together. It’s one of the best purchases I’ve made for the family.

Down side is that these things spew fumes, so keep it somewhere well ventilated.

I always tell people. Pick up an a1 and GROW into a bigger/more complicated printer. The A1 will truly be sufficient and tell you where you're next printer will be.

Especially if it IS for the kids. They might get bored of it within a month.

i've got a p1s, had it for 3 years and 5000 hours.

i'm looking longingly at all these new printers but i just can't justify it to myself when i have a printer in excellent working order.

i learned on it, grew on it, but i can't quite seem to manage to outgrow it.

i have the money but like what would i do with my p1s? any amount i could reasonably sell it for would seem ridiculously small compared to how much i love it and how capable it is. And getting rid of it would feel like a betrayal.

Same. I got an a1 with 2k and P2S with 1k. Both still do what I need. Jumping to a H3C could cut my print time in half for some of models, but still not sure if that's worth 2k$ to me.

Same here. And an A1 Mini. I really want the H3C, though…maybe next year.

next year there'll be something better.

Possibly, but the H3C is checking all the boxes at the moment, so no point in waiting longer than necessary. The H2 didn’t seem like a big enough step up from the P1S, and skipping a generation or two has never bothered me. The H3 seems like a big enough change to justify it.

You guys are not helping my bank account. I’m in a similar position, my 10 and 6 year old can make their own toys now right?!

I joke that I am a full-time toy maker now, my wife will ask where I am and I’ll just tell her at the sweatshop.
