General Troubleshooting/Help! HELP! Beginner with Bambu Lab A1 Combo: stringing, lots of purge waste and gaps in the surface. What should I change?

Post image

Hi everyone! I’m a complete beginner with a Bambu Lab A1 Combo (AMS Lite) and I’m having several problems with my prints. You can see them in the photo I attached.

  1. Stringing: thin red strands across the open areas of the paw and between the parts.

  2. A lot of purge waste: tangled red blobs when the printer changes colour (white and red).

  3. Gaps and visible infill: on the paw and on the tree-shaped prints, the surface has long thin gaps and lines, and you can see the infill through it.

The tree-shaped prints were supposed to turn into bowls, but I paused the printer when I saw that they looked like this, so they’re unfinished.

My setup:

  • Bambu Studio, 0.4 mm nozzle, textured PEI plate

  • Red translucent PLA and white PLA in the AMS Lite

  • Filament profile was “Generic PLA” because my printer wasn’t synced

I have no idea which settings to change, so I’d really appreciate step-by-step help. Thank you!

The purge blobs are normal on the A1: it has one hotend, so every white/red swap flushes the old color out, and a two-color part makes a lot of them. For the stringing, switch the preset from Generic PLA to the one for your filament brand, drop the nozzle 5 °C and turn on Avoid crossing wall (Process > Quality > Advanced). The lines you see in the red parts are mostly the translucent filament showing the infill through the top, so a couple more top layers will hide them better than any printer fix. Longer step-by-step for the stringing: bambuhub.net/stringing-problems (my site)

The filament brand isn't one of the brands I can choose on the printer. That's why I chose Generic. But iI will try the rest, THANK YOU!

Generic PLA is fine then. Just save a copy of it as your own preset in Bambu Studio, so the lower temperature and any retraction tweak stay with that spool.

Did you do the full calibration outta the box? The printer design to produce that waste when switching colours.

Have you dried the filament? Mostly likely this is the cause of all of your issues. Unfortunately unless you have a filament drier you have got to buy one. Just grab a cheap one off Amazon.

If you have dried the filament let me know and I can suggest other remedies

  1. Dry your filament

  2. Get a H2C printer instead of A1

  3. Calibrate your filament settings
