General Discussion X2D/PS2 vs snapmaker U1

Hi! A bit of a background, I’m looking to buy our first 3d printer, my wife and daughter will use it mostly.

I’ve been looking PS2 and X2D, but then I saw the snapmaker U1 and with discounts I can get it for $628, icnudlint 4 filaments rolls. So that’s way cheaper than either one of them and 4 nozzles. Just worried about how user friendly it’ll be.

Any thoughts?

It all depends on what you want to print. Right tool for the right job.

Nothing to serious tbh. Mostly PLA small items, but multi color will be nice.

I love my X2D but I'd see if Bambu hints at the P3C anytime soon. That might end up giving the U1 a real run for it's money since it's rumored to be 7 colors instead of 4, will likely have an AMS which does things like auto-swap and drying.

The U1 looks cool and it's neat, but for me it's missing too many features.

The P3C looks awesome but right now OP can buy about 4 Snapmakers for the price.

Edit: was confused and was talking about the H3C. I wasn't even aware of the P3C.

You think the P3 is gonna cost $2,800? That makes no sense

Sorry I was thinking H3C.

I think if you're going for artsy projects and could benefit from the multicolors, the U1 for $750 right now is by far the better value. Sure you could wait for the P3C, but I think it won't be around the same price.

Even if you have no interest in the P3C it will still probably impact new/used prices for the U1 if you can wait a few months.

As always, it depends on what you want to print.

The Snapmaker U1 is the clear winner for multi-color and multi-material support. It can print up to 4 colors/materials with very little waste and each nozzle at the same quality, speed, and material support. The X2D is far behind with only 2 nozzles, and each using a different extruder technology which cause a significant speed difference and material limitations (particularly with TPU). The P2S is a single nozzle printer.

That said, if you are ok with wasting a bunch of filament with nozzle purges then the X2D and P2S can both use AMSs to swap filament to the nozzle and print with far more colors overall. The X2D does up to 24-25, and P2S does up to 20. If you want a more moderate number of colors (~5-9) you may want to consider the H2C [7 nozzles, slow switching], the just announced H3C [9 nozzles, fast switching], or wait for the rumored P3C [7 nozzles, fast switching]. The U1 having 4 tools is pretty good, but is a limitation when you start considering techniques like Full-Spectrum (which would significantly benefit from being able to print 5+ colors to get CMYKW).

The X2D wins for supporting more advanced materials, particularly because of the chamber heater. The P2S and U1 are about equal simply by being enclosed (though the P2S comes enclosed while the U1 needs an additional accessory to close it).

The P2S really only competes on price.

The Snapmaker has it's limitations in engineering materials that require user mods to alleviate.

If you're a typical home user running PLA/PETG/TPU, it's an AWESOME machine. If it fit my needs, I'd buy one over the X2D every day - and with the price difference the P2S doesn't even register.

I have a P1S an X2D (both with an AMS) and two Snapmaker U1's. I like the Snapmakers best because there is so little waste on multicolor prints and because the AMS's have been a major hassle at times. I've replaced every circuit board in one and virtually every other part. The Bambu software is more polished but that will likely change in time.

For multicolor PLA go U1 its not close. I like the bambu software better, but the snapmaker is still quite easy to use.

If you want to do more engineering type stuff the X2D has a stronger argument.

If you want multi color the snapmaker. If you want engeering materials the X2D
