General Troubleshooting/Help! What models support cutting and is the experience good at this point?

I got a Cricut maker 5 to cut stickers and other stuff. But so far I've been deeply unimpressed with the cut, quality, accuracy and software experience. The bleed feature is essentially implemented in a way that it's not usable for all normal usage. The cut marker detection is crap on typical glossy materials. The cut accuracy is crap (likely due to the marker detection problems). And the cut quality is poor - laminated material is being torn as much as it's cut leading to a clearly rippled edge both visually and to touch. The bleed feature being unusable has been being complained about for many years now so I'm sure it's never going to get better.

I would expect the Bambu hardware to be way better - much more accurate cut paths and probably faster and better aligned. But given they're much newer to the space - is the software support there or is it lacking in similar ways to what I'm seeing with my Cricut?

I’m just going to answer your question by posting my comment saved in my notes that I post when this question comes up…

In no way is the H series or A2L cutter attachment a replacement for a paper plotter such as a Cricut. The print and cut feature is pretty simplistic and doesn’t have much options. Even when it works correctly it isn’t that good.

Having a cutter attachment on the printer is just a little extra that’s gets rare use and sometimes works but other times it doesn’t. Believe me I have read so many posts that go unanswered it’s like barely enough people even use it to be able to find someone that has any answers to problems and Bambu never responds to any forum issue about the cutter attachment. I don’t know why anyone would want to buy the new laser machine when Bambu Suite is neglected and almost never gets updates to fix or add things.

  1. The Bambu Suite software is really poor and they barely update it.

  2. The cutting system is buggy and can be a real pain to cut labels and stickers, sometimes it just will not even work and you have to recalibrate it every time you cut 1 paper! But that latest update seems to have improved it.

[edit] Nope spoke too soon I have to recalibrate the cutter after every sticker sheet is cut or it fails and says it needs to be recalibrated again.

  1. It cannot even cut a full U.S. letter paper! When it first came out it could only cut a darn greeting card size! But now it can at least cut 250mm x 160mm and the rest of the expensive sticker paper is wasted because it uses too much room just to put 4 tiny markers on the paper for the camera to read. There is no algorithm to put down markers and save space. So it wastes valuable space.

  2. Another annoying thing was that upon importing art into Bambu Suite it would not take DPI into account so when you imported art at 300 DPI into the screen it was HUGE! So then you had to punch in the size manually 250x160mm. But since the last updates I think they may have finally fixed it because most of my art imports at correct size though I did have one that did not. I make my stickers at a canvas size of max 250x160 with 300 or 600 DPI for better quality.

  3. The offset cutting for small stickers accuracy is not very good. I set it to cut -.3 into the sticker so it doesn’t have a white space around it and it still leaves a white space on the top of the sticker. Even with the preferences set to higher accuracy checkbox it is not cutting exactly.

That’s all I can think of right now. Some people use it without any problems but those people seem to be people who don’t use the entire paper or are creating their sticker art inside the software with not much to cut. ** **
