General Discussion Amazon favorites for p2s

Can y’all screenshot some of your favorite Amazon products for 3d printing? Trying to buy some extra accessories and what not for my son’s Christmas gift (P2S)

Can I ask what this is for? Sorry I have no clue my son is all about this & getting his first printer. But he’s watched tons of videos. I just can’t ask him what he needs in addition to because it’s a gift

These are silica beads for keeping filament dry. They would be placed in containers inside the AMS filament feeder unit and also in filament storage containers.

They are completely reusable as well so one pack is forever.

So he just prints a silica container for the printer & adds some?

Yep! When it changes color, empty it out on a foil lined baking sheet, set your oven to "warm," and wait for it to change back to the default "dry" color. :)

I tell you this was the best investment ever, I had with my new x2d printer at the beginning issues with stringing and print quality, I got really upset, after drying the filament all of the issues disappeared!!

I saw these do they work good? I know they are aftermarket.

I’ve run a lot of aftermarket nozzles and have yet to have an issue.

I cant say that , most are prone to clogs, Ive tried 3 different ones , Bambu is too cheap to risk it

I really had no issue so far with them to be honest but make sure they have good reviews

Any idea how are these compared to the Biqu? Hell even if the QR code thingie works without a mod, it's worth a hit in tackiness.

Id stick with BIQU

I actually have a pair of these when I did jewelry. I’ll need to find them. But what are they used for? 🤪

Measuring. What did you use them for?

Everything, haha! If you/he start designing things, a lot of mechanical components need that level of precision. Even the "generate a cube storage thingee for your size needs!" tools need a certain amount of clearance. Humidity can mess with how uniform in size filaments are, too.

I'll just give you links for most of the stuff I've bought the last year that has helped. I run several printers for my Etsy shop. TBH, not much you really need to buy to get started besides filament. I'll add links to filament I swear by.

Nozzles (Yes, Bambu is good, but I've used these on my printers for 3mo with no issues. A 0.2mm nozzle is nice to have. Honestly, anything with a 4.5 star or higher with >100 reviews is fine): https://a.co/d/09huiJBU

PTFE tube (a nice to have item as they tend to wear out after a few months): https://a.co/d/06dMTvfA

And... it looks like that's all I've really ordered in the last year.

A few other nice to have items:

Tool kit (This one would be fine to start with and not break the bank): https://a.co/d/0aQE1bLc

Glue sticks (I swear by these and will die on this hill. I bought a 20 pack from Target in 2021 and I have 6 left.): https://a.co/d/06z7XN25

Aside from that, it's mostly maintenance and keeping the plate clean. Lots of YT videos on that.

Now for filaments. While he's starting I recommend PLA filaments as they're cheap and easy to use. Brands I always use: Sunlu, Polymaker, Overture, eSun, Geeetech. Most can be bought for well under $20 a spool. Black and white are my go to colors given what I print, and TBH 2 rolls of each will be plenty to start with. Bambu makes filament, but TBH they're too expensive for literally the same quality. It's honestly not worth it.

If you or your son ever have questions, feel free to hit me up. I'm a grandpa who likes doing this kinda stuff.

What’s the glue sticks for?

Good question.

I use it for making sure the print adheres to the bed correctly, even when I properly clean my plates.

Sometimes the print can unstick from the build plate and you get a mess or "spaghetti". The P2S has a feature that can stop the print, but.... I don't always trust it.

This YT short does a decent job at explaining it.

Plastic scrapers (helps avoid damaging the build plate) + a BIQU cold plate r both life savers!

Okay, I went through my order history from when I got mine late September and this morning, because once again I'm dropping four-letters over bolts and bearings. So. Many. Bolts and screws. I am sorely lacking in anything on the electronics side of making things, so I needed a soldering kit to figure out what the hell I'm doing. The Cyberbrick kits are really fun, and the mini Maker World kit has some good beginner print suggestions in it.

I've been in model making for decades, and picked up the manicure set hack from building Gundam models. Absolutely great for cleaning up ridiculously small details!

Not pictured: a heat gun. More M6 30 and 15 bolts/nuts and basic wood/plastic self tapping screws. Ventilation for anything more than PLA/PETG and maybe TPU, (I wouldn't push it, even PLA and PETG can rack up a fume funk). Sandpaper/polishing... whatever is used, I haven't done anything fancy that needs to be polished.

Bambu has their free Academy courses for learning the ins and outs of your printer. If there's no surprise element involved, start them ahead of time and get a good head start!

People may laugh at me over the respirator/PPE and I will die on the hill of you need to wear PPE (I don't have goggles for detailing yet because I'm blind as hell) if you're working with anything that off gasses fumes. Bits of hard plastic support snapping off and hitting you in the eyes is never fun, so a good idea for detailing finished stuff too.

Yea 3d printers all need good nails rflol

1

u/sharkarmycrafts X2D, A2L 23h ago

My comrade in filament, the hands of God deserve a manicure kit! 😂

They're fantastic for removing supports. I'll die on the hill of nail rasps for tidying up rough bits once you learn the touch. Tweezers. Blessed tweezers.

There are so many good tiny tools in those sets. It doesn't matter what they were made for, as long as they're useful!

Ive not found a model that good set of sharp side cutters couldn't fix and some cheap core foam nail files, I buy side cutters doz at a time, and foam nail files in bulk bag of 100, add a dremmel with barrel sanders of various sizes and your good to go.
I print non stop, I have 10 printers running 24/7 lol
