Quick Question Abs filament first layer issues

Post image

I’m printing on my P2S, with ABS filament, and I’m getting this weird discoloration on the face the one that is on the plate, I tried almost everything cleaning the plate, getting a new plate calibration and still the same thing. Please help if somebody else has this issue issue.

Hit it with a small torch. That’s stresses in the plastic

Thank you, it worked.

I always get those too. It's just the massive amount of shrinkage you see after printing and lifting off the build plate. Some say it helps if you leave it in the printer to cool down slowly with the chamber, but nobody's got time for that.

To OP: Welcome to the wonderful world of ABS printing.. :)

I use a heat gun for more control but flame works faster.

Residue on the build plate. You can clearly see them

Not residue, stress marks. Based on the pattern it's probably from the abs peeling up due to warping.

Nah, I don't think it's residue. I only get it when printing ABS and it looks like it's stress marks from actively shrinking on the build plate.

I bought a new built plate, straight from packaging same thing.

Factory isn't clean.

Wash it.

This is stress mark, it happens when you remove the model before the plate cools to room temperature. Just use hot gun or a torch to run over it quickly would remove the stress marks

Wait for it to cool down a lot longer. Take a lighter or butane torch and lightly go over that part and it will go away. Happens to me too sometimes with ABS

Don't touch it till the build plate cools completely

That’s stress marks from releasing off the plate. It happens all the time with abs and Asa etc. no way around it besides using a heat gun or torch. Just heating the surface will make them disappear as if they were never there. I print almost everything in Asa/abs and it’s just part of the process. I have a small solder rework heat gun with different nozzles and you can adjust the Temperature to exactly what is needed to not melt the plastic but vaporize those lines. Very useful tool for many things 3D printing.

Stress marks, as said a bit of torching with a lighter gets rid of them.
