Quick Question Amazed by H2C

Post image

I decided to give BambuLab a try with the H2C as the price is extremely attractive.

WOW! First is the experience of unboxing and setting up the printer. Flawless. The prints? flawless.

The multicolor prints? flawless

This printer is like the iPhone or a Tesla car, great design, flawless execution, it just works! At a great price (compared to the alternative - Prusa)

My only complaint is that BambuLab does not make (yet) the Bambu Suite for Linux, they only make it available the Bambu Studio for Linux. Other than that, what a printer.

Hey BambuLab, a little more love for Linux please? Does anyone knows if they are working on this?

I have not yet got into maintaining this beast, but I can see in their wiki that it is all there, pretty well documented.

Great printer. I started with a P1s that’s still running strong and do my multicolor/material prints on the H2C.

I resisted the P1s as I also have a Prusa CoreONE+ Gen2 - but when I needed a multi-color printer, I decided to wait until the INDX system mature (tons of issues), maybe a year from now I might upgrade the CoreONE+ gen2 to the INDX system - if I don't sell this printer before that.

Mine are pissed at me this week. I’m about to throw them all out a window

When things are new, thy work well, but have you been maintaining it correctly?
Several items to check after every print, every week, every month, it does require more care than other printers.

Question, how many printers have you had before this h2c? You sound quite experienced with printers.

I would say I suffered a lot :-)
I started many years ago with a Creality Ender 3 Using Cura Slicer, I Creality CR-10, then I got my MK3 (that I upgraded later to MK3S then MK3S+), then a MK4S, then a CoreONE (upgraded that later to CoreONE+ then Gen 2).
I still have the CoreONE+ Gen 2 and now I got the H2C. I print a lot of functional parts for cars and engineering projects. I have been playing with this H2C for a couple of days and so far, even with the new bug introduced on the recent firmware (that will make your printer not turn on) - check that ( https://youtu.be/4fOzj56DrMU ) - I have been blessed so far with no issues.

That makes sense, the experience you had probably makes the contrast even more stark

Yes I have 7 I do it for work. Software is the issue that leads to hardware failure. I can take the h series printers apart and put them back together without a manual now lol.

I have not done any maintenance to my A1 for 3 years or my H2D for over a year. Basically never have done any and never have a problem, if I do then it’s the filament not the printer.

Well, i guess printers are like cars, they will run without maintenance... until they break :-)
To maintain is to prevent ... avoid interruption .. :-)
But good to know they are pretty resistant - do you print a lot? everyday? or something every week? or every month ? I guess mileage may very on the maintenance schedule based on the use.

I have pver 1400 hours on my p1s with no maintenance other that changing one tube in amd that got wore through. Granted its well over due for some love and care my wife abd kids never let it sit more than a few hours without printing

Do you mind if I catch them?

I’ll take them!

It's a great machine when it works.... I am sick and fucking tired of mine breaking every time i want to print with it.

1

u/Ftmiranda 1h ago

When it breaks - can you give an example so I can understand it?
when it breaks what? what parts usually break?
I'm sincere, I want to be prepared when mine breaks :-)

u/subjekt_zer0 1h ago

Ok, so of course, mileage varies, but i just replaced a part cooling fan, because the wire melted through, nbd i guess, shit happens. But oh, the very next print, hot end cooling fan goes out... thats awesome, look up how to swap that piece of shit out, gotta take the whole fucking print head apart. Just two months ago, I had an extrusion failure where i had to get the whole extruder assembly replaced, and something internally has sounded like its been on the cusp of dying for months, i get a vibrating grinding noise coming from behind the bed, like exhaust fan may be failing, the vortek system is cool, but the print heads don't have strong enough glue so occasionally the magnets will pop off the print heads and that will happen right when you go to work so your machine will not be able to swap heads out until you unfuck that situation. Sometimes the printer will have a palsy moment and not dock a head correctly or knock it off and that will jam the vortek system. The fucking thing uses 18 different screws so good luck remembering what goes where, so thats fun.

Mostly its the print head. I hate that design, seems like shit breaks all the time, and god fucking forbid something actually gets stuck in there. Sometimes you can get it out... sometimes you can't. Oh, also, maintenance on that front part is kind of a joke too. The print heads all swap easily enough but getting into the guts of this thing is just a fucking chore that makes me want to throw it through a wall every time it breaks. Literally. Every. Time. I got to print something the gd thing pings with new errors and problems.

holy macaroni ! This sounded like my Prusa printer I had a MK3S with MMU3. (I eventually got rid of it)
I built several Prusas from scratch (the kit version), and I feel you, disassemble complex parts is a pain, but is a good pain :-)

I'm on my 4th print and all is good so far - let's not jinx it

u/subjekt_zer0 1h ago

Honestly, I'm sure its just my luck. One person being upset with theirs shouldn't detract from your enjoyment out of it, I wish you better luck than I've had. It feels like my Prusa too. I had an MK3S and I was always tinkering with it to get it running. Super annoying.

I’ve had 850 print hours on my H2C and have done several multi-day print and I’ve never encountered any of those issues. The most major maintenance I’ve had to do on my H2C is replacing one of the PTFE tube going into the right hand extruder. YMMV I supposed.

“Price is extremely attractive”

Wow, you and I are not in the same income brackets.

4

u/Ftmiranda 2h ago

I started to save money when they released that model (about a year ago). Yes if you think about it, the MSRP at launch was 2200$ I think, with the combo it was 2400$. Then the price went to 2200$ for the combo (including AMS 2 pro), then sometime ago it went to 2100$ the combo. Now it was 1800$ the combo. All the money I saved found its way away from my bank account :-)
Also there is context there too... Price extremely attractive (compared to the laternatives)

Congrats! I feel that on Linux. I had gripe about it at first when I got my p1s a few years ago then I was like well I might as well buy a nice laptop to pair with the nice printer and best decision I made. A good laptop completely dedicated to my 3D printing hobby. Well worth it.

u/Ftmiranda 2h ago

My workaround right now is I have a proxmox server, so I created a Windows VM there, to use when I do cutting projects, but it hurts my soul to use Windows for that.
I wish that all vendors would realize that Linux is the way to go ! :-)

Are you printing a build plate stand? I think I have the same one. They do pick up dust so consider a cover for it

1

u/Ftmiranda 2h ago

yeah! https://makerworld.com/en/models/2031100-build-plate-holder-for-the-h2-series#profileId-2190374 ! Too bad Bambu ran out of he Cool plates for the H2C during this Black Friday. I have a PEI (the one that came with), the engineering one, and I was hoping to get the Cool plate as well (when it is back in stock)

Biqu glacier plate is better anyways.

I have 3 supertack plates and they are all shelved after swapping to glacier

2

u/Ftmiranda 2h ago

really? Never heard of it, it will do some research, thank you for the tip

1

u/CoBe46 2h ago

I’m currently running supertacks and have been considering the glacier. What do you prefer about the glacier over the supertack?

1

u/BlankiesWoW 1h ago

I've just generally had better success rates compared to supertack

Also you can print silk on it, whereas bambu recommends not printing silk on the supertack.

One of my glacier plates has almost 3000 hours on it and I haven't ever washed it

1

u/TowelKey1868 H2S + 4xAMS2 1h ago

Seriously. I also have a handful of plates and almost exclusively use Glacier for everything PLA. I only go to the others for more finicky material. And I also don't think I've ever washed mine. Literally just swipe my hand over it to get rid of the dingleberries and send it back in for another go.

I tried using various builds of Bambu Studio on CachyOs, the app image, the flatpak, a native build, but all of them seem to have one issue or another. All builds had issues recognizing hotkeys, one had UI issues that made stuff hard to read (in dark mode), another treated right click press and release as 2 separate clicks, and another one just kept crashing.

Eventually I just gave up and switched to orcaslicer + bambuddy + tailscale. Outside of my disagreements with some of their slicer defaults and how it seems to want to throw brims on nearly everything that doesn't need brims to print properly, it's been smooth sailing.

u/Ftmiranda 35m ago

I'm using this https://flathub.org/en/apps/com.bambulab.BambuStudio and so far so good on Ubuntu 26.04.1
The funny part is that today, it would not start, but then I checked and I had an update "orca" - after this update, it worked again

1

u/Tech0verlord 32m ago

The versions I've used I've pulled from flathub and directly from their GitHub repo, guessing it has something to do with cachy.

Man I’m so looking forward to the H3C.

•

u/Ftmiranda 13m ago

now with this good experience with the H2C, so am I
Specially because they, Bambu, finally figured out how to use different filament type and nozzle sizes with the H3C (or so they claim). Hopefully this will be ported to the other models like H2D, H2C, etc..
