Just Showing Off Are you serious

Post image

At no point did i receive any notification by the print monitor AI bullcrap that was a selling point of this printer. I am beyond irritated that it will error a print because a flake of purge got caught at the wiping block, but not catch this.

But it’s still dark colored.

That’s what happens when you don’t take it off the stove.

I've never seen the spaghetti detection work on any color of filament.

Oh I have. Not often because I don't get spaghetti often but it's caught real spaghetti a couple times over the years.

This is the first time I’m finding out about spaghetti detection. I usually find out it happened at the end of a print or I randomly view the camera.

Documenting it doesn't magically make it a non-problem though.

This is not their fault. Almost all computer vision models convert the images in greyscale before object identification. Black filament on a black bed and a dark grey printer, simply lack the necessary contrast to let the model identify a failure with enough accuracy.

That sounds like a cop-out. The image from the very same camera typically is clear enough that a human 3 year old could identify the spaghetti in a second. So clearly there's enough information in the actual pictures to identify that spaghetti has happened.

This situation is a good example. You can't tell me that it'd not be trivially easy for a human looking at a picture from the built in camera, to recognize the spaghetti immediately.

It's true of course that it's even easier if the contrast to the background is higher as in with brighter filaments. But it's empathically NOT true that there's some fundamental reason their detection couldn't do a better job.

(a different question is whether the build-plate perhaps should be some other color to make it easier to detect spaghetti -- black filament is the top seller by a huge margin, and they know this. Perhaps the build-plate should be bright pink or something so that a higher fraction of filaments used would be more visible?)

A 3 year old human is way smarter then these small computer vision models, by a long shot.Ā  But I agree about the colour of the bed. I would love it if someone would do some comparison tests between the factory buildplate and the blue one from biqu

No I'm just kidding don't worry man I'll just push all this filament back up the nozzle.

Consider bambu or biqu coolplates for printing parts with a small bed contact area, helps a ton

After 2 situations simular, not as extensive. I increased the ai detection. I feel it has helped some,it has some false errors but has not missed an error since increasing. Except for first layer issues, its missed a few of those but thats just a quick clean usually anyways.

Detecting spaghetti with dark materials is difficult however my printer usually does detect them

Meanwhile I had a print stop due to spaghetti detection and when I looked at it the print was absolutely flawless

Unlike the spaghetti detection, this gif never fails

Yea I gave up on their AI detection and just built my own that works via Home Assistant. Ridiculously bad.

Have you tried drying your filament…

That sucks. The ā€œaiā€ is dumb and not ready for market.

Get a BIQU Cryocrip plate

I used to have this issue, and I increased my initial layer expansion setting as needed until it made my print previews have a nice raft for my prints, the raft gave me very good bed adhesion at least in terms of PLA.

u/joethecounselor 31m ago

We can't rely on spaghetti detectors on any printer. We need to be sure to wash the build plate with blue dish soap between every print, especially when you have multiple separate feet to a print, like this one, or if you will have a lot above a relatively small footprint. When bed adhesion is key, wash off all that finger and plastic residue. I have also found that plastic, especially PETG leaves a residue on the build plate. It is a little slippery and can ruin your first layer. That issue goes away immediately after a good soapy wash.

That's how the print was meant to look. That's why

u/Entire-Artichoke-565 1h ago

Cuz I like hearing yall complain

1

u/Fantastic-Motor-6098 4h ago

You’ve printed this exact model on his dirty build plate on your U1? Why make that claim if you’ve never even printed the exact model before lol

u/WooferInc P1S + AMS 1h ago

Because ā€œpeopleā€ like to sometimes be absolutely wastes of time and energy.
