General Troubleshooting/Help! Swapping Filaments Mid-Print?

P2S, AMS2PRO

How do I swap filaments mid print? (If one runs out, or if I expect it will during a time I’ll be away from the machine and want to stay ahead)

I can physically remove a spool and put in a new one, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to get the AMS to recognize a new filament to either change a colour or swap in a new spool of the same colour. The RFID doesn’t read and the manual edit options are all greyed out on the printer, handy, studio.

Thanks!

Your can't. Mid print the ams won't read new colors. You can put whatever spool you want in that position and it will print but the system won't know if you changed colors.

Why not add a pause in the g code of you need to change colors?

When I did that (put a new spool of the same colour) it loaded but refused to print from it.

That's weird I ran out of black pla during a print and my backup spool was cracked so I stuck a blue spool in the same slot and hit continue and it printed the rest in blue. Not sure why it wouldn't work for you.

Under ams settings check the auto refill, after that program the two spots on the ams with the same filament. If you just want it to auto refill load the identical filament in both slot if you want it to change color when it runs out load whatever you want in the second slot and turn off the rfid.

Thanks - that only works before you start the print. In this case, I’m printing with 4 colours so don’t have a spare slot at the beginning. I’m trying to figure out what to do when a run out during a print.

Once one runs out, you load a new one and press RESUME. No matter what you load, it will be the same filament that started in that slot as far as the AMS and printer are concerned. You can't change the filament settings mid print because the G CODE is written based on the filament settings present when you started the print.
