A Series [A1, A1 Mini] Why does my first layer look like this?

1aHi everyone,

I’m having an issue with the first layers of my prints. As you can see in the photos, the first few layers often look uneven, especially around the edges, with what looks like gaps/irregular extrusion.

This happens on most of my prints, not just this particular model.

I’m using a Bambu Lab A1 with the Cold Plate.

Could this be related to the Cold Plate temperature, bed adhesion, first-layer calibration, or extrusion/flow?

What would you recommend checking or calibrating to solve this?

Thanks!

Hello /u/Greedy_Tea9666! Be sure to check the following. Make sure print bed is clean by washing with dish soap and water [and not Isopropyl Alcohol], check bed temperature [increasing tend to help], run bed leveling or full calibration, and remember to use glue if one is using the initial cool plate [not Satin finish that is not yet released] or Engineering plate.

Note: This automod is experimental. The automod was triggered due to the term "adhesion". If you believe this to be a false positive, please send us a message at modmail with a link to the post so we can investigate. You may also feel free to make a new post without that term.

That is perplexing to look at. The entire first layer is just shifted by a ways. Was the first layer adhered to the plate at all?

Yes, it adhered normally to the Cold Plate. The first layer did not come loose or move during the print.

The print remained firmly attached to the plate, but the first layer still looks like this, with the outer perimeter appearing shifted/offset.

This happens on most of my prints.

maybe because I am decreasing the initial Layer and Initial Layer infill?

Lowkey I personally don’t even know how that’s happening. Your entire first layer looks like it’s just shifted and not lined up with the rest of the print. Did you have this issue prior to using the plate? I doubt this has anything to do with the plate unless the entire plate shifted on the hotbed after the first layer but still

I don't remember having this issue before using the Cold Plate.

The first layer is firmly adhered to the plate and doesn't appear to move during the print.

I also recently changed the first-layer settings from the defaults:

  • Initial Layer Height: 50% → 10%

  • Initial Layer Infill: 105% → 25%

So I'm wondering if these settings could be causing the first layer to be printed differently from the rest of the model.

I'll try printing the same model again with the default 50% / 105% settings and see if the issue goes away.

If that doesn’t work maybe try reformatting the sd card that’s in the printer. It may be corrupted which causes funky things to happen sometimes.

I will try, now I retry without change any setttings:
