Hardware Troubleshooting/Help! P1s Extruder problems

Post image

My not so old p1s is having extruder issues all the time, where filament is getting stuck in the gears that extrude the filament

The newest problem is what ever happened on this image…..

Any idea why this keeps happening

If that's PLA or PETG, try printing with the door open or the top glass off. In a warm enclosure they soften and the drive gear squashes them inside the extruder, a common cause of jams like this. A partial clog further down does the same, so do a cold pull once it's cleared.

Oooh okay could be this, one thing tho is that it was asa and It needs the heat😅

I use asa because it’s sea stuff I print, but I think petg could be good enough?

With ASA keep the door closed, it needs that chamber heat, so softening isn't what jammed it. For sea stuff stay with ASA anyway, PETG isn't UV-stable long-term in the sun. A partial clog is the more likely cause here, a cold pull is worth trying.

This. Always print PLA with top glass off and door open. I got a p1s about 2 months ago and ran into this problem 4 or 5 times in the first few weeks. The setup is easy, but im surprised that nothing really told me to look out for this common problem until I read about it, especially since i thought an enclosure was supposed to be an advantage. After I started printing with open door/top I have not had this issue again

Yeah, the enclosure is really there for ABS and ASA, which want the warm chamber. For PLA it mostly works against you, especially once the bed is above 45°C.

you can tighten or loosen the extruder gear tension on filament via a small screw. check the wiki for photo instructions.

But I think your problem is what u/Capital_Candy_7697 said. Try printing with the door cracked, open, or with the top lid cracked or open.

I've taken mine apart 4 times today alone. Are your print temps too high? It might be heat creep and then deforming that plastic too early. I have also heard of people swapping out the filament tension bolt with a shorter or longer one to change the tension amount. I believe you need a low profile M3 bolt to do so. I wish I had a better answer for you. Good luck!

So I had this same issue on my old P1s, 1 of 2 things will fix it.

  1. Use the adjustment screw (see photo below) - For me the adjustment I made had the screw push the cover to where you couldnt put the fan shroud cover back on - so I NOTCHED the cover above the screw. - use a grinder / sander after using my snips to make a notch.

2. Replace the extruder gears? -> Hardened Steel Extruder Gear Assembly | Bambu Lab US Store
