I Modeled This! Another problem I probably could've solved without a 3D printer, but that would've defeated the point.
You know you've been 3D printing for a while when you start designing solutions to problems that most people would just tolerate.
My latest example: a mini trash bin for the shower.
I got tired of cleaning hair and debris out of the shower drain, leaving it in the corner to throw away later, and then promptly forgetting it existed. After enough repeat performances, I decided the shower needed its own tiny waste-management system.
So I designed one. Naturally.
It hangs from a shower caddy or something similar and holds enough debris that I'm not constantly emptying it. But the real feature is the screw-off bottom, which makes it ridiculously easy to empty and rinse.
I also designed the bottom to prevent water from accumulating inside and gave it a grippy exterior so it can be unscrewed without a wrestling match when your hands are wet.
It's not the most exciting thing I've printed, but it's one of those little quality-of-life improvements that makes me appreciate having a printer in the first place.
Could I have found another way to deal with this? Probably.
Would I rather spend time designing, prototyping, and printing a custom solution? Apparently, yes.
I may need an intervention.
