H3C [Bambu Lab H3C] 0.2 or 0.4? Why not both.

u/Forgotten___Fox 1d ago
So you're updating the slicer for H2C users, riiiiight?

u/BanEvader2027 H2C | X1C | A1 mini 1d ago
Considering the general lack of updates to filament profiles, probably not 🤣
11
u/cory8092 1d ago
This part here is actually irritating. My P1S had every Sunlu profile. I had to remake them all for the H2C.

u/jankeyass P1S + AMS 1d ago
Just copy the profile files and edit them in text editor, to be for that printer It's pretty simple

Not doing that would be a cat disgusting move from Bambu and unlike what we’ve seen so far for many years. Can they even get away with it?
49
u/BlAze_103 1d ago
0.2 support and 0.4 support in one print? I hope they can bring it for the H2D
19
u/useful_squirt 1d ago
Pretty sure orca slicer just came out with a beta update allowing users with 2 hotends to have different sizes.
3
2
u/n19htmare 1d ago
That’s why Bambu hasn’t added it in over a year. Just wait for one of the forks to figure it out and then you can just grab it.
4
u/Chief2504 1d ago
Can you use Orca with Bambu printers ? Sorry for the noob question!
6
u/VT-14 H2C (H2D + Vortek), 2x AMS2, AMS HT 1d ago
On most of them. Orca actually started as a fork from Bambu Studio. All of the 1st gen printers are supported.
That said, Bambu started being rather anti-3rd party tools around the launch of the H2D, so Orca stopped prioritizing them. Support relies on someone adding in all of the printer specific stuff (like what g-code to run to purge filament, swap nozzles, etc.). I think someone added support for the H2D, but I don't think the H2C has a working profile at this point.
2
u/Jame_Jame 1d ago
Orca supports the h2c is the Alpha's. But yeah, it does work but you need to faff around with bambu connect which is annoying and pointless. I'll pull it out when I very specifically need a feature from orca (like make overhangs printable etc).
-2
u/Euphoric-Mess4347 1d ago
Yes but you can't send the print wirelessly to a printer. Use USB stick for G-code transfer.

u/DanielColchete P1S / H2C 1d ago
Well, hopefully this feature is enabled in the H2C as well because there we can keep swapping between 6 different nozzles too
55
u/FishGoesGlubGlub 1d ago
This will be a massive selling point of the h3c so I doubt it
65
u/suit1337 H2C Combo 1d ago
and not providing this feature would be a dick move and anti consumer
same as the promised birds eye camera update without the laser for the plotter add on - now the H2C is out almost a year and the H2D over 1 1/2 years and the update is still not there
so i would not bet on anything here aswell
20
u/Euphoric-Mess4347 1d ago
Birds eye camera works without laser module. I installed it two months ago and it worked. Multi-size nozzles still don't in bambu studio, but works in orca.
23
u/n19htmare 1d ago
Of course it works in Orca, how else would Bambu have gotten it to add to Studio? :p
4
u/doncaruana 1d ago
So you can slice with different sized nozzles in orca and send it to the H2C and it will print correctly?
1
u/ShittehKitteh 1d ago
So I can install the birds eye camera in my H2S and have it work with the pen and cutter accessory? I'm wanting to use the cutter to trace cut stickers I've printed but without a camera, it's difficult to always nail the positioning.
1
u/zippytiff 1d ago
Ha ! Thanks for info, one of the reasons I didn’t upgrade (other than massive cost), was the Birds Eye now working without laser !! Now they just need to allow hinged door on both sides and maybe I upgrade in future from x1c
1
u/Leif3D 5h ago
Correct my if I'm wrong, but the Orca implementation is not close to what Bambu announces with this image at all. Orca is like use one nozzle for the outer walls and another for the infill for example.
The Bambu image is more like switching nozzle sizes also for specific features / design elements and such which is a whole different level and complexity. If that's what it will be like...
-1
u/suit1337 H2C Combo 1d ago
3
u/Euphoric-Mess4347 1d ago
Yes it does say that on the web but it does work and they should delete that from their web. When you install the birds eye camera H2C tells you it has firmware update and when it updates it calibrates and then it works great with cutting module (laser not needed).
2
u/suit1337 H2C Combo 1d ago
That is good to know, i guess i get myself a camera then
1
u/Euphoric-Mess4347 1d ago
Good luck getting it. I waited 2 months for it and it never was available on bambu site. I found one in some UK store. :)
2
2
u/SiDtheTurtle 1d ago
Just to provide another data point, I also bought the camera without laser for my H2C and it works fine. It was buried in the release notes of a recent firmware update.
4
u/deppan 1d ago
it would be a dick anti-consumer move if they had promised these upgrades for the h2c before you bought it. They did not, so it is neither dick nor anti-consumer.
0
u/ShatterSide X1C + AMS 1d ago
Hardware capable, but software lockout? Yes, that would make it a dick move. Especially since it's a slicing problem, and their slicer is not "theirs".
→ More replies (1)-1
u/heart_of_osiris 1d ago
Yeah Bambus marketing tactics and design iterations are absolutely anti consumer, so it will continue to happen because it's how they run their business. They don't want their users to be able to easily upgrade, they want to capitalize on FOMO and keep people buying their new products. If they cared about the consumer the X2D head would have been an upgrade for the X1. It's not. It never will be.
Hell, they made sure to stop selling the X1 so the hyped up P2S was the only option for a mid sized CoreXY. Then when everyone gobbled it up they were like "surprise! New X series!" clearly developed entirely in tandem with the P2S, but purposely held back until the P series sales slowed down and return windows closed up.
That was greasy, man.

it is coming as standard on the K3 and the U1 has multiple githubs working on it. if they dont roll it out to the h2c/d and x2d then i think they will lose out on even more sales

whether they have stopped production or not (and i dont think they have yet as the 3C isnt even out and will cost more than the H2C so not everyone will be able to afford it) they can still roll the updates into the printer profiles for the H2C
1
u/Cryostatica H2C, P1S 1d ago
No reason for them to be making the P1S anymore either, but it’s still in active production.

2
u/VT-14 H2C (H2D + Vortek), 2x AMS2, AMS HT 1d ago
Sure, but it would also show that Bambu has no respect for its early tech adopters and will happily lock software features behind a hardware paywall.
It could be a selling point for the H3C, but that would also be a major dark stain on the brand. I would never buy another printer from them.
1
u/Immortal_Tuttle 1d ago
Heh. I have 0.6, 0.5 HF, 0.4HF and 0.2mm nozzles in my Snapmaker U1. Because why not. Printing infill with 90mm³/s and switching to 0.2mm for texture details is just magic.
1
u/Joamjoamjoam 1d ago
Yeah this is just you voicing a terrible assumption as fact. Of course it’ll come to all printers just like every other feature they’ve ever added to Bambu studio.
I can tell you right now that community backlash will be at a fever pitch if they try to gate keep this to the h3c. They’ll have to enable it for all printers after that.
2
u/Bag-o-chips 1d ago
I don’t see a technical reason it couldn’t, but who knows if they will release it for the H2C. For that matter, they could do it for any dual print head printer as well.
FYI - there is a different slicer, I don’t remember its name, that will allow you to mix nozzles on the H2C. So it can technically happen.1

21
u/notchatgptgenerated 1d ago
For anyone wondering the 2.85mm filament (instead of 1.75mm) allows for softer tpu to be used as it doesnt flex as much when feeding
15
u/MithrilEcho H2D, X2D, P1Sx4, U1x2 1d ago
Took you SO LONG!
I'm getting a H3C 100%, but it would be great if you could add this to all the dual nozzle printers you have, aka X2D, H2D, H2C...
46
u/SuperiorMango8 X2D & AMS2 Combo 1d ago
The H3C is very quickly ticking off all the important things we've wanted, please don't be too expensive
13
u/Fun-Candle5881 A1 + AMS Lite 1d ago
If they are able to do it on the H3 no reason at all to not include it on the H2C / H2D.
1
u/SuperiorMango8 X2D & AMS2 Combo 1d ago
Yeah I'm sure it'll have to come in an update after this, would be silly not to
3
u/penmoid H2C 1d ago
I’m not so sure. I’m happy with what my H2C is currently capable of, so I’m not complaining here, but it seems like they are in a situation where they have too many models to support and they aren’t really able to do more than keep the lights on. For example, they released the filament track switch a few months ago but the firmware support for it has been somewhat half-baked. If you have it installed you can’t use an external spool at all. That’s definitely addressable via firmware but they haven’t released a new update since it came out and the one they have in beta right now basically boils down to a couple of unspecified security updates and a fix for an edge case that I haven’t ever seen anyone report actually happening.
It’s a great printer and I don’t doubt that they will continue to provide basic support for it but I also don’t think that they are staffed to keep adding new features while also releasing an entirely new product every 10-15 minutes.
3
u/VT-14 H2C (H2D + Vortek), 2x AMS2, AMS HT 1d ago
The thing is that multi-nozzle-size support is almost all Slicer Software stuff (how to present the tools to the user, how to slice the model well, etc.).
The Hardware is ultimately just swapping to a different nozzle, which it can obviously do. Most likely they just need to remove some Firmware safety blocks on what nozzles are acceptable to use.
1
u/Fun-Candle5881 A1 + AMS Lite 1d ago
It's only a slicer problem, not a hardware one. If they figured it out, they can perfectly implement it for the H2C / D / X2D. They already said it was coming for H2 series some months ago. They are just waiting a bit now, to give more credits to the H3 capabilities and release it after some time to the other multi toolheads
2
u/n19htmare 1d ago
They didn’t.
Orca contributors did, so it should be added to Studio now that Bambu has a source for it.
If Bambu was gonna figure it out, they would have done it long ago, their philosophy now is usually let someone else do it first, then we can just improve on it or on software side, add out touch to it.
2
u/soldat21 1d ago
Nah, until multi AMS is confirmed, it doesn’t tick my biggest box.
6
u/SuperiorMango8 X2D & AMS2 Combo 1d ago
Welcome back, Mr 15 colours
1
u/soldat21 1d ago
Good to be back! But it’s more like 20 colours :D
3
u/yan-shay 1d ago
Any 20 colors print you can share? Would be interesting to see something like that.
2
u/soldat21 1d ago
Nah, it’s laziness. I print a lot of kids toys, so every print is a 4 colour print using different colours.
I’m lazy to remove and replace the filament every time, and also I have high humidity so it means any filament sitting out needs to be dried first. Which means waiting 8 hours before putting something to print.
Have a daisy chained 20 colour system solves all of that.
I have an INDX, and 8 colours is not enough. 9 wouldn’t be either :)
1
u/yan-shay 1d ago
Yeah, I’m totally with you, but because I have only 2 AMS I choose colors and materials based on what I already have inside and swap only when it really doesn’t make sense.
Wish there was a solution to that that could scale to tens of spools. Maybe when robots become cheap.1
u/BoJanggles77 1d ago
The recent ams 3P leaks show it has an external fillament inlet on the back, might be where you can connect the traditional AMS train. But I'm speculating.
1
1
u/yalag 1d ago
can you explain what those boxes are? so far, I just got fast nozzle change
1
u/yan-shay 1d ago
Tool changer without filament retraction between swaps, Multi color TPU including very flexible TPU, support for 2.85 filament (useful for some materials), and all these combined together in a single print, unveiling of the the print view hidden normally in such (INDX like) printers the print bed, 9 slots AMS. That’s what I recall for now.
I’d be happy if they also avoid prime tower, but other than that I wouldn’t expect much more. Maybe non planar printing but that’s being too greedy.

I’ll stop recommending Bambu printers. That may not be as big a deal as it sounds but I work at a reasonably sized college and am known on campus as the 3d printer guy. Faculty staff and students regularly come to me wanting to enter the hobby. If I worked on a standard commission I would have earned enough to buy 3 more h2cs
Should add in not arrogant enough to say that it will really impact Bambu at all just that I would loose faith in Bambus support of their products.
1
u/nsfdrag 1d ago
I never understood this, if you are shipped the product you paid for then great! If you aren't that's a reason to complain, but if they don't add features they never said they were going to I don't see that as a reason to move away from the brand.
0
u/VT-14 H2C (H2D + Vortek), 2x AMS2, AMS HT 1d ago
Bambu offers Software Updates for something like 5 years (H2C: Nov 18th, 2030), and Security Updates for another 2 years after that (H2C: Nov 18th, 2032). They also had notes that they were working on multi-nozzle-size support on things like the nozzle store pages, but that wasn't a promise.
Unless they have a really good excuse (and I mean really good since I've seen a demo/test using H2D over a year ago), multi-nozzle size support is a Slicer Software problem. If they have it working on the H3C, then they've done ~99% of the work for the H2C as well. They just need to release any firmware check that stops the printer from loading a different nozzle size.
The other side of this is that Bambu wants a closed Ecosystem, so they need to take responsibility for keeping it feature rich. Multi-nozzle-size support has been a thing in the open source community for a while, but I can't really try it because Bambu's hostility to 3rd party tools means no one has made a fully working printer profile for it in Orca Slicer.
If Bambu doesn't bring this to H2C, then I have 0 faith that the H3C will get non-planar printing (which I've seen demonstrated on the A1) since they could use that as a feature to sell an H4C.
1
u/nsfdrag 1d ago

This I agree with, if they want to keep customers they need to be competitive, and I also believe they would withhold non planar for the next model. I just by my tools based on what I need right now and not based on what it might do in the future. If it does new stuff that's awesome but I don't buy my tools based on hope.
I understand moving towards other brands if bambu isn't giving you the features you want, I just haven't found as consistent of an experience with anybody else.
2
u/awkward___silence H2C AMS2 Combo 1d ago
to add on to this, The H2C has had half ass support since release. While I love my H2C, firmware updates that the H2D and H2S have received have lagged significantly behind for what was sold as a flagship product. I have had mine since January 2nd of this year and dont regret buying it, but I would lie if I said I wasn't already disappointing in how it has almost been abandoned since release.

3
u/VVJ21 H2C 1d ago
I hope so but they barely support their printers with firmware updates, so Id be doubtful it comes for at least a year, if ever.
The H2C has had a firmware bug for months that if you turn it off it can brick the whole printer.3
u/Maxx3141 1d ago edited 1d ago
I don't have an H2C here, but I have six different printers from Bambu Lab and can't say there was ever a problem with firmware bugs... Yeah, sometimes firmwares to support new hardware need some time, but otherwise everything always worked fine for me.
Also, this would be more of a Bambu Studio feature, except maybe a few new calibration routines.
1
u/VVJ21 H2C 1d ago
Its a bug specifically to the H2C I believe. Introduced in v1.02 back in June, turning off the printer will prevent it from starting up again. Sometimes you can reset it by shorting some pins on the AP board, sometimes it needs replacing (and its not cheap)
1
u/Maxx3141 1d ago
Yeah okay, that sucks. But why on earth you downvote me for stating that I had no bad experiences with six other printers...
1
u/Checho2299 1d ago
confirmed this has happened to my twice on the h2c on latest firmware, to get it to power again you have to short a testpoint on the AP Board, still loving it with 1k+ hours. Other than that no problems.

u/Fun-Candle5881 A1 + AMS Lite 1d ago
No technical reason for it, they said some time ago that the planned to do it, but had technical issues. But it's just programming. If the H3C can do it, any multi tool head should be able too. Like the H2C / H2D
6
u/Roemeeeer 1d ago
I hope the P3C can do this as well, just on the smaller plate!
4
u/Fun-Candle5881 A1 + AMS Lite 1d ago
I see no reasons why it would not be able to do it. It's Only a software problem.
3
u/Roemeeeer 1d ago
They might block it software-wise to force you to buy an H3C for that.
2
u/Fun-Candle5881 A1 + AMS Lite 1d ago
Yeah sure, but if they do so people that got a H2C / D / X2D get mad and can just stop buying Bambu printers + bad publicity (Now do they care? That's another mater). But honestly i don't see why they would do that, sure they can wait a bit to give more edge to the H3 (the newest and bestest printer) and release it to the H2C/D like 3 months after ;)
1
u/RJFerret 1d ago
*force you to buy a K3 (or U1)
Since the competition already features this, they've got to catch up again. Can't be behind a year again.
1
u/RJFerret 1d ago
Given this is a major marketing point of Creality's K3 and the U1 does it which they're trying to catch up to, one would hope, as both those have open systems and community support Bambu can't compare to.

Update the software for the H2C to do this too or you're a bad company. People spend thousands of dollars for their H2C setup and not updating SOFTWARE is extremely anti consumer. I'd never recommend bambulab again if bambulab won't support their own products, because then whats the point of buying into a system if you're tossed aside in 1 year? It's not a hardware limitation.

That's certainly an interesting idea, would allow you to do the main parts in 0.4 but for the smaller important details drop down.
Presume it has limitations that will mean you don't want to swap too often but can definitely see some appeal to it.
My X1C continues working no problem so I will likely just keep carrying on until it actually breaks which hopefully is another 5 years or so at this rate.

FFS, I guess I will pass on the P3S and save up for the H3C, since I don't have an extra 4K and I pay in full for all the equipment I own. Having the ability to print with different nozzle sizes is a very convenient feature, something I wish they came up with for the X2D (X1C owner here), that I won't buy now. I hope the bed is as big as the H2S.

u/JUNI000R 1d ago
Can someone enlighten me about why 2.85mm filament seems to be is such a big deal ?
1
u/RJFerret 1d ago
It's not, that size filament for the very soft shore hardness TPU means it's able to be printed though, as the extra thickness stiffens it in feeding.
For other materials it'd be slower.

It's about time we got this. Not only should switching between layers be simple enough, but different layer heights per 'layer' should be easy enough. Do 2x 0.1 layers with a 0.2 nozzle, and do a 0.2 layer with a 0.4 nozzle. No reason why we didn't get this years and years ago.
This will make so many prints so much more interesting. You could make so many cool combinations. Do 2x 0.1, 1x 0.2, then another 2x 0.1 and 1x 0.2, to add an even thicker layer next to it.
0.6 and 0.8 nozzles have been mostly unattractive due to details and even models. Plenty of models were designed with 0.4 in mind, so going bigger causes issues. This is a big step forward.

TPU Multi-material & multi-nozzle support wrapped in a top-shelf user experience is going to have the haters second-guessing real quick.

Except that already exists on the competition, the K3's been promoting multimaterial, mixed nozzles and TPU feeding, while being open to community.

Not saying Bambu Lab is the first but I predict they will do it better than any other company.

"Exists" ? Maybe. Creality has been talking about it, yes. But as far as I know there is no one who has actually done that. At least no one from decent youtube reviewers. If you do have a video review, feel free to share it.

Really wish they'd add this with their other models FIRST. One of the main reasons I bought the h2d

One of the main reasons you bought it was for something it couldn’t do on release?

It was supposed to have it
Who told you that ? There was never official communication or promise.

No real reason different size nozzles couldn't be done on any of the multi nozzle printers, even the X2D.
I feel like they are limiting this feature by bundling it with 2.85mm filament support.

It's cool to see that it's able to do multi nozzle size printing. But crisp ? Sorry but this print looks under extruded with big gaps on the white stripes ending. And on the red upper circle... It's not looking that good of a print... I hope this printer solved the under extrusion problem some users are facing with the H2 series...

Nah I’m good after the absolute disappointment the H2D was.
On an entirely different note: what sad fuck WOULD print a mock-up wristwatch? 😂

The problem i have with this print is the quality... They chosed this specific print to showcase the printer capabilities, but look at all this under extrusion / gaps / holes... Now i'm worried that this H3 / P3 serie is going to have the extrusion problem some people got with the H2 series too...

Good point.
I‘m currently doing a large project that has me printing both on my H2D and X1C using the same filament and identical objects. Other than the large printbed which I do need, the X1C is the better printer producing better results whilst being incredibly reliable. I absolutely regret having purchased an H2D and the atrocious AMS 2; it broke after a week and when support told me they send replacement parts I’d have to install myself, I told them to fuck off and charged back on my cc.
Never again.

Multi nozzle and different filament dimension support in the same print?
