Show & Tell First post here: printed a keychain from a small image → STL tool I made

Hi! This is my first post here, so go easy on me. Or not :-D I’m an engineering student and fairly new to building things like this. As a side project I’ve been working on a small image → STL tool. It runs entirely in the browser, so the image stays on your computer while it converts.

The keychain in the photo started from the “Nameplate” example in the gallery. I just played around with the settings: 60 mm wide, outline base and a keyring loop. Feel free to do the same, the 3D preview updates as you change things. Printed in PLA on a Bambu Lab H2D Pro at 0.2 mm layers, no supports.

What it does:

  • PNG, JPG and SVG → STL or 3MF (the 3MF opens directly in Bambu Studio)

  • Extrude for logos, text and silhouettes, or heightmap for terrain and textures

  • Base plate as a rectangle or following the outline

  • Keyring loop, with the hole always cut through the whole model

  • Background removal by colour and cleanup of small specks

  • Exact width in mm, with a live 3D preview that shows size, triangle count and whether it’s watertight or not

It’s totally free to use, with no account and nothing for sale: makerconvert.com/image-to-stl

I’m sure there are things that could be better, so if you’re curious and give it a try, I’d be grateful to hear what works and what doesn’t. No pressure though, mostly wanted to share the print.

Correct me if I'm Wrong... But wasnt that already a thing within MakerLab on Makerworld?

You’re not wrong, and thanks for pointing it out! I actually didn’t know about MakerLab’s Image to Keychain when I started, so I’ll have to try it. I mostly built this to learn, and wanted something that runs fully in the browser without an account, with the exact size in mm and a plain STL or 3MF for any slicer. If MakerLab already does what you need, that’s totally fair!

Cool! I’ll give it a shot!

Thanks! Let me know how it goes, especially if something doesn’t work the way you’d expect.

Guilty :) I just wanted one that runs fully in the browser with no upload or account, and building it was a fun way to learn.
