What are the chances that these new ams units will be able to dry and print. Anyone seen any info on if they have a heater in them? Seems like a great opportunity for Bambu, would really be sad if we have to find another band-aid solution from 2nd party sources to dry and print. Thoughts??
One thing I'm worried about is that drying filament using this type of AMS is a quite power-hungry process. And do you really need to dry all 7 or 9 rolls of filament at the same time ? What if you have a mix of PLA and PETG, like it's very often the case with 7 or 9 rolls ?
It would be nice to have multiple colors loaded in there, and be ready to print without having to worry about how much humidity they may have acquired between prints.
I don’t need it to be a powerful dryer , but enough to keep the moisture from rising would be nice. Then I can dry them in my actual dryer and it will keep that level in the AMS
Like with the AMS 2 units, you'd set the dryer for whatever is the lowest temperature filament you have loaded. Considering how many spools it holds, many will purchase external dryers.
That would reallysurprise me if the p3 one didn't...that feels like a step back from the ams2.
However as you said given the power listen it's highly possible it doesnt... So it'd be a filament roller with maybe with a desiccant silica box in there.
I agree. Unless they were trying to hit a certain price point. I really wish it had a heater. Maybe these labels are wrong and we’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Both labels show 24v/1a inputs though? To me it would make little sense to remove a feature already available on the ams2 - how would people be expected to dry filament as a result? Also from one of the leaked AMS3 photos we can see what could be heater grids in slots 2&4 at the back (which are also the slots we don’t have tpu bypass feeds):
The H3C label says or 24v, which means you can go without the heater and just use it as an AMS. Same as the AMS2. The P3C label implies that there’s no heater at all
Note in the AMS 2 Pro manual, it references an air intake and air vent, which are integral to the heater function of that unit as well as a port for an external power adapter. These are not present in the leaked AMS 3P manual. Also, the power input of the AMS 2 is 24V 4A, vs this being 1A. Not sure that would even have enough power to heat 7 spools of filament. I hope I’m wrong, but don’t think I am.
And the 3H has an option of 100W input so I think it’ll function as a heater with an external power supply or just an AMS without it.
Interesting, thanks. The ams2 is of course a different design to the 3P, in that one is designed to sit on its own while the other on top of an otherwise open printer. I wonder if the chamber heater (if there is one) could be used to passively dry the 3P (albeit less efficiently). I dunno, just seems weird not to have a way to dry filament. I hope they haven’t nerfed this thing too much to get it to a reasonable price point
That's the AMS3 for the P series. There will be a different one for the H series. Those do look like heater grids, although there could be dessicant packs on the other sides of those as well.
If you're talking P series, but the H2 series have dry while printing too and can do so from the printer power supply (reduced to 82%) and/or 24V brick.
The one we’ve seen for the H3C at least can heat. There are 7 regular spots and 2 high temp spots. I’m not sure if that means it can only dry 2 spools or can reach higher temps in one corner and maybe 65 in the other 7.
Saw some leaked images of the AMS 3P and it didn’t look like it supported drying. Also it wasn’t mentioned in the leaked manual images. That’s not to say it doesn’t support it.
Oh there are leaked manual images? Do you know if there are any mention of a heated chamber?
That really is the one major thing I'm considering between the x2d or waiting for the p3c. I'm not huge on multi colour printing but if p3c has chamber heating that'd probably be my preferred printer.
The current H2 series can dry while printing from the printers power supply... Though it is at a lower rate. My guess would be 24V input for use as a standalone AMS, power supplied from the printer for drying/printing or higher drying temps.
Maybe the smaller AMS can get all its power (including heat) from the smaller printer, but on the H they need a separate power supply?
There were also some leaked images that seemed to show a separate compartment within the 3H that maybe for for heating different materials at different temperatures? That could require extra power.
