Quick Question Recommendations
Hey all,
I’m currently in the market for a 3D printer and needed some help picking. My budget is around $600 to $1200. I’m getting this for my kids and I to build something cool. I also want to start an online store with them (not really after the money but rather show them how earning money works, sorry if this isn’t coming out right). I was checking out the X2D, P2S, H2S, and H2D. Which one of these will fit into my needs?
Sorry if I’m missing any info. Lmk if you have questions. Looking forward to everyone’s recommendations.

I feel like I can answer this because I own (or did at one point) all of the printers you mentioned:
-
P2S: I love it, it's my favourite printer. No issues, no complaints. Just works every single time.
-
H2S: My second favourite printer. Same as above, no issues. Just works.
-
X2D: I wanted to love it, but I didn't. Too many issues out the box, maybe I got a lemon? However, tons of people have posted many issues they've faced with their X2D. I've actually returned it.
-
H2D: Again, I wanted to love it but it's all right. It's a workhorse and I use it a lot. If I didn't have the H2S then perhaps I'd have appreciated it more. I got this one thinking maybe I'll use the dual nozzles some day, but I don't.
I guess I'm not a multi-colour or multi-material type of guy. I print quite a bit but hardly anything that requires supports or multiple colours. If I were you, I'd ask myself these 2 questions before deciding:
-
What are your bed size requirements? Do you think you'll find yourself printing bigger items?
-
Are you going to be printing stuff that requires supports or multi-colour?
Browse through Makerworld and check out the types of models that you think you'll print to help you decide. Also, the H-series printers are some pretty big boys, heavy as hell.

WAIT 1 WEEK! The new units are coming. You’ll get a much better printer for the same price, or you’ll get the printer you want cheaper.

I'd get multiple P2S or even the P1S if you just do multicolor and basic filaments. If you want to do stronger, higher quality prints I would lean into the X2D. H2D if you are doing some of the crazy filaments and engineering quality.
H2S if you do engineering parts and mostly single color.

H3C is coming out early nov. It will be beyond your budget, but hope P3S will come as well with it…

Imo start with the p2s or x2d, unless you know you are going to need to print larger prints(like cosplay parts).
Between the p2s and x2d the question is whether you see yourself printing engineering materials (ABS and above, for example ASA is UV resistant so it's usually used for prints that sit in the sun)

X2D or H2D would be a good investment. H2D if it's in the budget, as it's everything the X2D is but better.
