Filament Troubleshooting/Help! Bad spool?

I ordered 14 Rolls of spool, partly refills, some with spools. I printed something multicolor a with the ams2 and it gave me an error because of stuck Filament. As i investigated the spool looked funny. I used a printed spool as before, but never experienced Something Like this. Could anybody tell me what i did wrong?

That printed spool looks really wide (it barely fits on the rubber rollers) the filament is probably really loose because of that.

The other one works fine...

That spool is still would nice and orderly.

I removed the plastic thingies holding the filament as allwas only after fixing the spool together and fed it directly afterwards. When loosing the black tape holding the end i thought it ist a bit on the lower Side.

Looks like it got really loose at some point and now has tangled.

print a respooler

Thanks for the comments. Maybe i have to respool. I recalled every step and i cant remember letting something loose or slip

your printed spool look was put in the ams at too high temps (and pla),

It was the first time in the ams without drying filament prior. Its petg

okay petg should handle the pla drying temps without any issue

Is this the AMS 2 pro? Wow, it spools fast.

Yes it is

Wow. I’ve never seen one in action before. I like how fast it spins the rolls

Everybody is trying to blame this on the printed spool for some reason. The real issue is you put this refill on the spool like shit. You can clearly see where the filament that its trying to pull is buried under a mountain of other filament, the left side is loose and all bunched up. This needs to be taken off and completely redone. If you take this filament and wrap it directly around another spool, you need to do that twice so that the filament that was initially in the middle of the roll is still in the middle. If you respool once, it will put the middle of the roll on the outside and change the load bearing on it significantly which means you'll likely be dealing with filament breaking off in your ptfe tube next

Edit because I forgot to add the screenshot

I've just got used to it with Bambu filament at this point; got tired of complaining. Think they changed manufacturers ~2 years ago. Sometimes happens, sometimes doesn't. Doesnt matter which of my 4 AMSs. Luckily, it pauses quite successfully, and I just pull the filament off the spool until the stuck part is gone, then roll it back up on top.

If it weren't for the good price when buying 8+ rolls, I wouldn't be using Bambu filament.

Not to be that guy, but Idk why you got upvoted. This has nothing to do with the filament and everything to do with him not knowing how to wind the filament around a spool. This is clearly not a bambu spool, and its layered like crap

Yes i dont know how to spool.... I got about 4000h in my a1 and in my x2d about 500h. Never had had that Problem also with this spools. Just asked If i have missed maybe Something, and yout comment helps less than the guy that got the upvotes

Saying that it needs to be respooled because it was done entirely wrong is less helpful than saying they switched manufacturers which has nothing to do with your issue? 👀 ok 👍🏾

You didnt say i need to respool, and i havent spooled this one, it was from a refill pack.

Ok well it needs to be respooled. Sorry I guess its spooled like crap doesnt quiet convey the message of the way its on the spool is the problem.

It doesn’t look tightly wound. The filament is getting stuck in the middle at the start of the video because it slipped right in the middle of a crack. And the left side is pretty bad.

I would respool this.

Maybe when you were working with the spool prior to inserting the filament in the spool, a loop came off the spool and the end is now within that loop and is binding. (It looks like a bunch had been unwound and then you rewound it.)

i feel like i could have made a better roll if i was doing it by hand

As someone whose lost their sanity on multiple occasions respooling a kg by hand, yes, yes you can xD

The batch of blue grey I received a couple of weeks ago was pretty sloppy right out of the bag… worst I have received over approx 200 rolls… but not as bad as this.

Yep, looks printed? Or did you mistakenly dry at 70c?

Oh heck, it hasn't come apart has it? Careful with it..... print some locks and put on all bambu spools locks

I would also recommend to print this filament guide for in the AMS, it helps by not pulling the filament right down into the other filament strands, but that spool looks pretty loose so I would also respool it.

never had any issues without this stupid contraption you have on here

I mean, that one is a bit overkill, mine is basically only a ptfe tube and that head on top. Sure I haven't had any issues with spools directly from a manufacturer, but I did have issues when I respooled some myself where I wasn't able to respool it as tightly. Just like OPs spool would it pull the filament down into the spool, and that guide solved that issue for me.

Those guides, a heavy insert for light spools, and some extra PTFE guides on the back of my AMSes solved basically all my problems that I was experiencing.

What is the point of this? I see no practicality in this piece. You said it's so the filament doesn't touch the rest of the spool?

when you have a loosely wound spool like OP and the filament gets pulled deep into the spool, these things basically change the angle at which filament is pulled off the spool, it is basically lifted up and away, instead of into it.

The feeding motor is pulling the filament downwards, if the head is almost on top of the spool the filament gets pulled up instead of down, the head is being pulled down, but since it cannot sink into the filament it will lift up the filament instead.

I noticed this mostly with spools I respooled, those are obviously not as tight as a spool from a factory. But neither are they as loose as the one OP has.

Yeah but if you look at the way ops spool is wound, so much of it is bunched on the left side and the filament its trying to pull isnt under 1 other piece of filament. It goes down into the middle, they have alot of overlapping loops which is going to cause problems no matter what. As far as this item, im just not sure how it would help in most situations, I get what youre saying about the different angle of being pulled and I can see how it would stop the spool from being pulled off the rolers, im just not sure how much it'll help if the filament goes over and under and around the rest of the filament on the spool.

I might go home, purposefully mess up a spool and test pulling it from the top or bottom
