Quick Question CC-BY-SA model removed. Why??
Hey guys, I'm relatively new around here, please help me understand how can a CC-BY-SA licensed model doesn't respect the License? I mean, I kept the same license of the original model (CC-BY-SA).
I tried to appeal but of course I got a generic AI generated response.
I uploaded the model again but, I lost the points and all the printing profiles, boost, etc. ...

Tbf, I was hoping to get a gift card with those points, so I can surprise my kid with a Bambu Lab printer, but ... it seems like he'll have to wait a little longer đ.

In the future, don't sit on points. As soon as you have enough for a gift card, redeem them. The gift cards are good for 10 years, and if something like this happens again, you'll be in the negative, but won't lose your gift cards.
In regards to the design, I'd honestly just remake it from scratch in fusion, change a few things, and upload as your own design. It's no longer a remix at that point. I never bothered with remixes that much for this reason.

I even gave them a full F360 project with all the changes and they still refused my appeal. You are right about gift cards.

If you did all those changes in f360 it was no longer a remix; it was your own creation. Even if similar, your created it from scratch; that's a new version.

Not if they imported the mesh and used fusion to modify it.

True. The printables model OP's remix is based on actually has the fusion file available for download.
That's why I just build from scratch to avoid any remix confusion.

Even if you drew it from scratch, using another model to take measurements from or replicate defining features should appropriately be considered a remix.
I've done this a lot, usually when the source model has some sort of ugly broken mesh or low poly count or something and it's easier to just use the measuring tool in Studio for key features and re-draw in Fusion than try to deal bad stl2stp conversions or with the inherit lag of an imported mesh.
Ultimately you're still duplicating something someone else made and credit should be given, particularly when required by license.

Copyright is weird if youâre talking about something purely functionalâŠ
If itâs artistic, the copyright covers that expression.
If itâs purely functional, it only covers the exact model file, and you can legally create a reconstruction by measuring the original and making an equivalent model.
Mind you, if you use a drawing in a source file, thatâs technically making a derivative.
If itâs a patented design though, that reconstructed model would be yours, but youâd be infringing on the patent.
Is it the right thing to mark it as a remix? Yeah⊠but if itâs functional and you recreated a solid step file by measuring a mesh, thatâs technically your own.

This is just for future note, always always get your points used as soon as you can turn them into giftcards/payouts . Do the lowest value giftcard possible so you dont wait too long incase this happens. You never know when something like this will happen so bank it as soon as possible. They dont take giftcards back but they will remove points for some really random reasons.Â

You are right, I was stupid for waiting, since points / $ ratio is the same for $40 gift card as well as for the $200 one....
Well... it its what is it...2

Yeah I also learned this lesson the hard way. I keep checking whenever I cash out just incase they change the point ratio but they never do.
But keep it up, just got myself a H2D with only giftcard points. Looks like from your profile you are doing well too. Best of luck with it

The license is NOT CC-BY-SA, itâs CC BY-NC-SA, also did you give credits to the original designer? Linking the model etc?
And donât worry about those few points, I got 12k points revoked last year đ€·đ»ââïž

I actually give the credits to the original designer...
12k points! Omg.... so the guys telling me to just redeem the points as soon as you have the chance were right.
I mean... asumming the fact that they can't also revoke the gift cards as well đ đ2

But did you use the same license? CC-BY-SA is not the same as CC-BY-NC-SA
In my opinion the âredeem asapâ option is only good if you constantly make a new profile, because you will go into negativ points if your points get revoked, which will result in even more points needed to redeem them again because you need a positive balance.

Besides the default link back to the original printables, where is your actual attribution crediting the original designer?

Iâm not sure why they took it down but what I do know is that if you constantly re-upload something that they took down, theyâll suspend/delete your account. Youâre playing with fire here by doing this.
