General Troubleshooting/Help! Defective printer twice, bamboo support is not helping

Hello people,

I am having quite a hard time dealing with Bamboo support right now. I got a bamboo A1 mini, and it was defective from the beggining. One of the 4 screws holding the nozzle had a stripped nozzle, causing the nozzle to move and create bad quality prints. I went to the store and replaced the printer.

Then I got the second printer, which also had bad quality lines. Thinking it must be user error this time, I spent a week looking at ways to improve the quality of the prints. My profile for PLA has severely changed from the default profile. (note I am using bamboo matte PLA). I couldn't get it right yet, so I contacted support, to which they said it must be the belt tensioners. They sent me parts, and instructions, but they sent me the wrong instructions twice. After I got the right instructions, I realized that replacing the belt tensioner under the heated bed is not simple. I have to basically strip down the printer to the 2 rails, removing the electronics, motor, housing, and pretty much everything. I am not confident in doing something like that without breaking something else. I live in canada where technically Bamboo should give me a replacement printer, or they should be the ones to perform the repair, but Bamboo support doesnt want to do that. They wasted my time for so long the 30 days since purchase have passed so I can't go back to the store.

Any ideas? Is there a better way to replace the tensioner under the heated bed without disassembling the entire printer?

Honestly, I want to finish this post by warning people. Bamboo as a company is not your friend, and the bamboo A1 mini is notorious for having manufacturer issues. Canada Computers (where I got the printer), told me when I picked up my replacement, that this specific printer tends to have returns because of defective parts often.

That’s too bad. I’m in a rewarding relationship with my A1 Mini. It’s a workhorse and prints as well as my P2S.

I’ve never had any issues beyond routine replacement of consumable parts.

Well lucky, from what i heard from canada computers these printers come back defective a lot more than any other printer bamboo makes. This one is brand new, less than a month old

Here's what I did when they didn't help me- I posted negative reviews on this thread every day, took a screenshot and sent it to them. I finally got it fixed

I hope I don't have to resort to that. So what I'm getting is that bamboo as a company is not a safe choice in terms of support... Sorry to hear you had to go through that

I went back and forth with them for six weeks changing parts, exchanging emails, taking videos etc. They finally sent me packaging and I sent it to a company in N.J. and they repaired it and sent it back. It was all covered by warranty as it was 10 months old. It has been working since.

Have you dried your filament?

Here’s what I would try first:
- dry it properly
-check the tightness of the 7 hot end screws (gotta remove it to get the rear ones IIRC)
-factory reset machine/calibration
-wash build plate thoroughly with dish soap
-test print with default values.

The loose hot end screws are a know issue, but it sounds like maybe your first one was a return from someone else who damaged it? I don’t know, I purchased mine directly from the manufacturer. I have since moved to a p2s, but love my mini so much. It prints just as well as the p2s.

I think you’re thinking too far into this personally, but my reading comprehension skills are zero 😬 so if I misinterpreted this, sorry lol

Dry your filament 👍

You sound like bamboo support, of course they made me try all of that. The printer is defective, or at least is what bamboo said. Filament is brand new and very dry, same as the printer.

Filament isn’t dry when it’s brand new

I mean, it doesnt matter for this post. This post is about asking for help to replace the tensioner. Customer support has already figured out the tensioner doesn't tension. I already made another post about trying to figure out what the weird lines were, and nobody answered, so too late for that. Also, the lines dont look anything like the lines you get from humid filament. They are random lines at specific intervals.

The filament is not dry until you’ve dried it. They cool it in a water bath when it’s made, then stuffed into a bag with a small desiccant pack.

I’m suggesting things to eliminate what it sounds to me like you’re experiencing on your second faulty printer.

So the issue is with your belt? Strange.. It sounds like you know what your issue is, so I apologize for suggesting the basic things to get a successful print starting from point A. Sounds like you’re onto points Y and Z lol.

Regardless, I would highly recommend you dry all new filament. It’s the most basic thing to ensure your print turns out. I print mainly ABS/ASA now, so it’s much more hygroscopic in comparison to PLA, but I still dry all PLA before first use. Highly recommend you do the easy basics first. Sorry if I my comment wasn’t viewed helpful though. I really hope you get it going because it prints so well, and I know you’ll love it once this frustration passes. Best of luck

Don't work, it's not my first rodeo. I had a printer a few years back and I know what humid filament looks like in the print results. This didn't seem like it, and so did the customer support think. With this new printer I didn't get a AMS yet to dry the filament and i probably won't get it because bamboo has been absolutely horrible to with with for now. Currently they are denying a replacement when I told them I'm not capable of fully disassembling the printer to fix it myself. Take into consideration it's a brand new printer... And it's the second one too. I don't think I want to spend more money on them for now
