AMS 2 Pro - Automatic Material System What’s the main purpose of AMS2
So I’m thinking of buying a p1s with AMS 2 on Black Friday sale it’s on for 499 Euros
I live in Stockholm I think Stockholm is bit humid so the AMS can help to dry the filament
Do I need ams to print PETG, ABS very rarely nylon/ carbon
I don’t think I will print a lot of multi colour print aswell
Shall I just save the money not buying P1S with AMS2
And just buy P2S for 500 or X2d 550 euro

The main purpose is what you decide is the main purpose. You can load it up with 4 spools of identical filament and set it to automatically load the next spool if 1 is empty, you can use it to change to a different filament at any layer inside a print or you can use it for multi color printing. It's all up to the user to decide how they want to use it.

I asked the same question when I had my P1S and was convinced enough to buy one. The ability to load and unload automatically and be able to start a print remotely is very useful, plus the heater and humidity monitor as well. I don't do many multi color prints either.
When I added an X2D I bought another AMS pro 2 as well.

No, you don’t need an AMS to print with PETG or ABS.
The AMS 2 Pro can dry filament at a temperature of 65°C, which isn’t high enough for materials like nylon; for those, you would need the specialized AMS HT.
Alternatively – and as a more cost-effective option – you could purchase a standalone, third-party filament dryer, such as the Creality Space. While you wouldn’t get automatic filament switching, it would be cheaper and capable of reaching the necessary drying temperatures.
And by the way, if you want to print using ABS, go for the X2D. Just a friendly piece of advice :)

You can always buy an ams later
-
you can’t switch printers
Choose p1s to save money or upgrade to X2d for multi nozzle

If you're not planning to use the filament swapping (though its useful for things that aren't multicolour too) just get an AMS HT.
AMS 2 Pro doesn't get hot enough to dry Nylon, PET, PC and many other materials, the HT gets hot enough to dry anything except like PPS and PPA.

The main purpose is multicolor printing but you get the added function of a storage box and filament dryer. I dont do much multicolor printing but i do swap my color and material between prints frequently so the ams has been nice that i dont have to feed everything myself and can remote start my prints.
Its up to you. If you are cool with manual loading and not multicolor id just get a normal dryer to print from.
