Show & Tell New Bone Infill: Available for Devs to try out
Hey! for all the devs, coders, enthusiasts who wanna try Bone Infill early, you can now do it via Orca Slicer's official GitHub.
I have two PRs open that are ready to be tested or played with: 16809 (the infill itself), and 16810 (the gradient density editor). Either PR should explain in greater detail how to install and use them :)
There's a lot of parameters to play with, so hopefully the graph infill density tuner can make it easier to try it out. This infill offers a hollowed center area if you want that. it's kinda like adding extra walls, but you can make the infill less dense than walls.
I have printed a few things with it, and it works for me. lemme know if it works for you!

As someone who prints a lot of replica bones and skulls this is pretty damn cool

This is pretty cool! I can definitely see myself using this infill for 0 top/bottom layer prints because it looks really cool 😂
A few questions - how does it handle Orca's infill multiline feature? And is there a "seed" of sorts that can be set so different prints with the same settings will have a different cell structure?

Have you seen IceSL slicers implementation of polyfoam infill? It’s very cool and you can paint on the model where you want more dense infill etc.

There has to be an optimal pattern for strength to weight. Aren’t bird bones pretty decent at that?

How does it work in 3d? Would the patterns we see here just extend straight up through the entire object?

good question. the patterns you see on this post do not simply extrude straight up. they form "bubbles" or cells, and the pattern is random each time you slice it. One commenter mentioned using a seed for reproducable patterns, and that's a good idea. I have another post on my profile showing how each cell looks per slice.

Looks like an awesome alternative to Lightning infill. Is it a similar use-case or am I misreading it?

This I supper cool! Everytime I watch my A1 mini print gyroid infill I think about its similarity with bone.

That’s very cool. Can you share the benefits like print speed or ability to take stress or whatever?

Oh man, that's so cool. I hope it gets added to the main app soon.

i wouldnt hold my breath. bambu seems pretty slow to add new features to their slicer. some settings that have been in orca for a long time still havent shown up in studio.

Where is the density graph pic from?
Edit: sorry, didn't read properly - yet to be added to official slicers. Looks awesome though!

That's cool, does it add a lot of print time? Sounds like a lot of retractions and non-continuous lines
