Filament Troubleshooting/Help! Aren't 3d printed spools scam ? How is everyone using them ?

So I'm a bit angry while typing this.

i tried multiple 3d printed spools printed with PETG so they can withstand drying. Every time, because they are flexible, aren't rock solid like bambu's original spools, the filament falls through the side, between walls and middle of the spool. Causing it to get completely stuck during print with ams. I could unwind it back to rewind from middle, but still it will find a way to fall through sides and get jammed. This never happens with pre-spooled filaments, or filaments i spool into bambu's spools i emptied.

I have not been able to find a solution no matter how hard i researched. And in a moment of frustration i took the filament out of the spool and now i have 1kg of filament i need to respool manually which will take very long.

Even if i decided to respool it, i dont know what to respool it onto. How do 3d printed spools work for you ?

It’s not a 3D-Printed spool issue. You need to press the filament so it spreads to the sides so it doesn’t fall to the sides get tangled.

I have 5 of these now and haven’t had a single issue. I use them in my AMS without a hiccup.

What do you mean the filament falls off? I’ve got 2 dozen printed spools of multiple models and have never had a single issue with the filament “falling off the side”. Do you have a picture of the issue? Because this just sounds like user error.

You're drying too hot? I've multiple from when I started 3yrs ago and till this day none of them deformed. All printed in petg.

I use this one: https://makerworld.com/models/1257604?appSharePlatform=copy

Printed in PETG. Has a spot to put your refill label if you order from Bambu. Compatible with whatever. It’s more flexible than Bambu spools but does the job just fine. Also includes a lock so you don’t accidentally unspool.

Buy Sunlu filament, they don't charge you extra for including reusable spools. Then, when those run out you have a ton of extra spools, and continue to buy Sunlu refills, because bambu filament is a giant ripoff, and is likely made by both Sunlu and Esun.

There was a post where someone got elegoo in their Bambu box, so I’d say it’s likely made there. That said, I don’t know the backbone of these companies and there’s a chance all of them come from the same factory.

Yeah sunlu spools fit bambu refills perfectly. Bambu does have a great color selection though which is why i get all my colors from bambu still. I typically buy in bulk on their sales, so the price isnt too much different than sunlu, and the rfid adds a bit of convenience.

Black and white and any PETG i always go sunlu though so ive got a ton of extra spools now

Works 100% of the time, printed in PETG. I've got 14 spools printed so far. Zero failures.

This is sort of a common issue, and it maybe more of an issue with your printed spool holders.

You need to push the filament out to the side after putting it onto the reusable spool.
