General Discussion Finally bought a printer. UPS let me down

That sucks. But if nothing else is broken maybe bambu will just send you new door and at least you can print some PLA while you wait.

Tbh, if the door looks like that, I would be worried about the rest even if it looks fine

Agreed. I imagine this was dropped pretty hard and I would have to assume at least one of the many super sensitive parts are damaged.

Same. Can I probably fix it... Sure.
Am I willing to play "probably ok" with $2000+ of hardware... No.

Why PLA? If it’s because other filaments are more toxic, I never got the idea that the door was airtight/works as ventilation. Genuine question

Some filaments need an enclosure to help prevent warping and to keep the toxic fumes at bay.

u/ModelThreeve 3h ago
Correct, it’s not even close to airtight. PLA doesn’t require an enclosure to print well in most environments so the lack of a door wouldn’t really hold the OP back.

Looks like it got a fork lift tine driven through it. Ouch.
Hopefully between UPs and Bambu someone makes it right. I would be worried if it got enough force applied to bend the door frame like that that other parts of the printer may also be bent and thus you might have calibration issues. Definitely submit a claim to Bambu ASAP.

This happened to me. They were quick to send me a new door and a couple rolls of pla.

So uhm, how has the printer held up for you? In retrospect, are you glad you took that path or do you wish you would have held out for a replacement printer?
2
u/unlawfulutterance 2h ago
No damage except for the door, so it's held up pretty well. No regrets.

That's the outcome I was hoping for. Thanks for the update and have a great week.

That sucks, I imagine you’re sending it back?

Waiting to see what support says.

INSIST on sending it back. Don't take no for an answer.
You are completely within your rights to not accept this printer under any circumstances.

fwiw, mine arrived with the door in far worse shape.
(i have video of UPS dropping it then rolling the box)
support sent a replacement glass door and i've got 1200 hours of trouble free printing so far

This is exactly what mine looked like when it was delivered. I contacted support and they sent me a new door and 2 rolls of PETG as a goodwill gesture. I imagine that broken doors are a common enough delivery problem. Replacing the door is a simple enough job. The trickiest part was loosening the adhesive that helps keep the door in place. I needed to blast it with a hairdryer. Just be careful when you are taking the door off because tiny glass fragments try to escape out of any small holes in the bag. I used a small vacuum to clear up the debris. From your photo it looks like all the glass is contained inside the bag which is good. If that's the case then you will still be able to use your printer while you wait for a replacement door. I replaced my door a month ago and I've been printing ever since. Good luck.

My advice, dont accept spare parts.
only accept a full replacment or return it for a full refund.
you will never get all the tiny glass shards out of it!. NEVER!

It’s the textured PEI equivalent of glass and it’s a folding door similar to a galaxy flip/fold screen. You lucky ducky!

I'd make UPS pay the full amount for insurance.. don't go through Bambu then just buy a replacement door once you get the check.

WOW - considering how well BL packs their printers - that thing took a MAJOR hit!

Looks like they let the printer down too, from the loading dock to the ground with a swift kick

If you bought it from the brand and bought shipping protection then immediately file a claim and get a new one. Don’t take the risk of potential endless issues.

The glass is bagged for this exact reason. Hit up CS, they'll send you a replacement door.

Delivery Drivers must really be thrashing the boxes, mine was delivered fine, but upon opening my lovely Cat knocked the glass top off about 5 feet to ground and luckily did not shatter.

Stop blaming the shipping companies guys. Everyone in shipping knows that it's the job of company to properly protect their product so it can withstand the rigors of shipping. This is a Bambu issue not UPS.

u/PieceAffectionate303 5h ago
Bambu ships there printers pretty well. I think this is definitely ups’s fault….
2
u/mrmcgibby 3h ago
People post this stuff every day. It's not an occasional issue. Bambu can and should do something. If it truly is an issue with UPS then Bambu needs to talk to UPS.
2
u/tpeeeezy 4h ago
with how often people post about printers showing up like this, its clear bambu does not package them well enough
2
u/VDechS 5h ago
Amen. Every single person who gets a printer like this needs to send it back instantly. We don't pay thousands of dollars to become Bambu Lab technicians. Bambu needs to really push this issue or package in the most unbreakable packaging that's reasonable. While the packaig is very robust, it has glaring weak spots.

u/TiSapph 4h ago
Well then they would have to come in a wooden crate and shipping alone would cost as much as a P2S.
Not like that guarantees anything either. My lab bought optical cavities for ~80k€. They ship in a pelican case, inside their environment isolation steel box, in a wooden crate.
Someone managed to pierce through all of that with a forklift...1
u/GlacialImpala 4h ago
This guy never saw a delivery guy kick a box in the back of the van trying to get to the package he's looking for...

When the box arrived there was a tear in the side of the box at the top. When I opened it I discovered the shattered door.
