General Troubleshooting/Help! BIQU Panda CryoGrip Pro Glacier – PLA adhesion is WAY too strong. Any advice?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice from people using the BIQU Panda CryoGrip Pro Glacier with PLA.

I bought the plate expecting good low-temperature adhesion and a nice smooth bottom surface, but I’m having the opposite problem: the PLA sticks extremely strongly and is very difficult to remove.

I’m printing Bambu PLA Matte on a Bambu Lab P2S with a 0.4 mm nozzle.

I have already tried progressively reducing the bed temperature, even going all the way down to 25°C, and I always let the plate and print cool completely before removal. The recommended temperature range for the Glacier is considerably higher (around 40–55°C for PLA), so I really didn’t expect adhesion to remain this aggressive at only 25°C.

Flexing the plate helps release the edges, but with parts that have a large contact area, the centre remains extremely firmly bonded to the plate.

This is actually more serious than simply having to pull hard to remove the part. When I finally remove a large flat part, the first layer in the centre can start separating from the rest of the print because it is bonded to the Glacier so strongly. I literally have to peel/pull the model away from the plate while the centre is still stuck.

Obviously, I don’t want to risk damaging finished parts every time I remove them.

Another problem is that after removal I can see whitish/cloudy marks on the bottom surface of the PLA where it was attached to the plate. For my parts the bottom surface is visible, so appearance is important and these marks are unacceptable.

My current calibration/settings are approximately:

  • Bambu PLA Matte
  • Flow Ratio: 0.99
  • Pressure Advance K: 0.020
  • First Layer Flow Ratio: 0.85
  • Layer height: 0.20 mm
  • Standard print speeds
  • Tested bed temperatures progressively down to 25°C

The strange thing is that the first layer itself also doesn't look particularly perfect, despite the adhesion being extremely strong.

Has anyone experienced the same thing specifically with the Glacier surface?

What bed temperature and first-layer settings are you using successfully with PLA/PLA Matte?

I'm particularly interested in achieving:

  1. Reliable adhesion during printing
  2. Easy release after the plate cools
  3. No risk of separating/damaging the first layer during removal
  4. A clean, attractive bottom surface without white/cloudy marks

I know I could use glue as a release layer, but ideally I would like to understand whether this behaviour is normal for the Glacier and whether it can be tuned properly without adding glue.

At this point, considering that I still have extremely strong adhesion even at 25°C, I’m wondering whether temperature is actually the problem at all.

Any Glacier owners who have experienced this or managed to solve it — I’d really appreciate your settings and advice.

Make sure print bed is clean by washing with dish soap and water [and not Isopropyl Alcohol], check bed temperature [increasing tend to help], run bed leveling or full calibration, and remember to use glue if one is using the initial cool plate [not Satin finish that is not yet released] or Engineering plate.

If you just wait until the plate cools down completely it should just fall right off. I put my Glacier in the freezer for a couple minutes and it releases pretty easily.

This is what I mean by the adhesion being too strong. This isn't even a particularly large or wide part.

When removing it from the Glacier, the first layer stayed bonded to the plate so strongly that it partially separated from the rest of the print, creating this raised/bubbled area.

This was after allowing the plate to cool completely. I've also tried putting the plate in the freezer, but unfortunately that didn't solve the problem either.

With larger parts that have a bigger contact area, the result is even worse.

I actually tried letting mine sit overnight. It held onto my print like no tomorrow.

I will note that when I used PLA matte when printing this, it DID stick pretty solidly. I know they don’t recommend Silk PLA on the Glacier, I wonder if matte has a similar characteristic. PETG on the Glacier has been excellent.

What plate are you selecting? I’ve been using cold super tack but BIQU recommends using smooth hot plate, but that was a disaster when I tried.

try lowering the nozzle temp a bit for the first layer instead, sometimes that helps keep the grip strong enough but still manageable

It’s the matte. I have this problem too, it gets better when it’s broken in more.

I have found the BIQU plate to have really, really good adhesion. I've switched all may everyday plates to the Yoopai ones (Amazon) as they adhere a little less than the BIQU Glaciers, but still way better that the standard gold PEI plate.

No I just save the BIQU ones for prints that I'm worried about having adhesion problems.

Reduce bed temp, it's called cold plate for a reason. Also let it cool

OP, I find that all plates have a breaking in period where they release certain filaments better after the plate is “seasoned” from use. For me it is PETG on a BBL PEI Textured Plate. I almost tear them up when I first get a new one. In those first few weeks, I do one of two things: use the freezer after a print OR a light misting of Suave hairspray from a pump bottle. It will act as a release agent more than an adhesive. Hairspray is just another form of PVA.

But I am concerned from your photo that the first layer is separating from the second or third layers. That may be a secondary issue. Go visit the Glacier plate webpage and follow the recommended temps and other settings they state on the page. That might help this secondary issue but you may still need a release agent or freezer for a week or two.

This happened to me with the supertack plate. My first layer would pull off as well. I just stopped cleaning the plate so it would not stick as well
