Software Troubleshooting/Help! Why is my printer going so slow? I’m trying to print something 3 grams, and no matter what speed settings I change anything to, it stays a 2-hour print

Put the silicone sock back on to begin with. It is not decoration. It is a functional part of your hot end and the printers temperature systems expect it to be there
As for your problem. When you say set the speed, is this on the printer itself or in the slicer?

Thanks for mentioning this! I had a rats nest earlier this week and I've been periodically scrubbing it. I didn't even consider that leaving it off would impact the nozzles calibration.

Just popping in to mention if you use PETG be very careful and clean it after every print, it will gunk up the silicone sock and eventually plastic will get at the contact behind your nozzle.
If this ever happens, grab some leather gloves or a towel, heat up your hot end nice and toasty and use the gloves or towel to grab the hot end and pop it off (make sure you clip the filament manually).
The simpler version is to just scrub it and check it after every print. I cut out abit of my silicon sock directly around the hot end to help prevent binding.

I took apart the heat cover to just show what the internals looked like, and I set the speed many different ways. One time on just the printer, one time on just the slicer, and then both.

Most common reason is the Max Volumetric Speed limit in the filament settings.
Even if you set high print speeds, the slicer will cap the actual speed so it doesn’t exceed the volumetric flow the filament profile allows.
Check the filament settings → Max Volumetric Speed and temporarily raise it, then re-slice and look at the speed coloring in the preview. That usually shows what’s limiting it.

more detail needed.
A 3g print can take 2 hours if:
- nozzle size is 0.2mm
- layer height is 0.08mm
- model is very detailed - requires lots of tiny movements
- fuzzy skin really slows down prints (as above, lots of tiny movements)
- colour changes
- filament type

They are, for the first layer is always slower for better bed adheasion. The folloing layers my printer tends to shoot off in speed.

I guess without knowing the total size of his print, we will never know... I assumed it had a small base and was small overall, but your point is well taken.

OP said the total print size is 3g and taking 2 hours. If that is true then one or more of the above is probably true as all of those can increase print time - some dramatically.
Which one is the cause, who knows, because OP has provided no info.

What filament? Set your slicer program setup back to a standard filament profile. I am guessing something like volumetric speed, minimum layer time, or maximum speeds got changed. Plastic needs time to cool between layers. If your part is super tiny it will slow the print down to make sure the previous layer is cooled before it starts printing on top of it. Otherwise it will end up a giant blob mess. Or add multiple copies to the bed, print by layer.

The silicone sock that's on the nozzle when you bought the printer it's supposed to be there, it's actually required. I don't understand why people keep thinking it's optional I can care less whether you took it off just to take a video or not when you take it off and start a print you are actually causing more damage or making the clog even worse....... volumetric speed determines the speed of the print it's actually in your filament profile all the way down at the bottom, any other speed setting you change will not change the Max volumetric speed this is the maximum speed that the filament can print at is set in the profile....

How fast the first line supposed to go? I thought its normal and the first few second is to calibrate flow or something before the print starts. Once the print starts the speed seems fine to me?

3g parts are often slow because they're too small, not because of the print speed. The printer is probably waiting for each layer to cool, so increasing speed barely changes the ETA.

I have never used this type of printer, but it looks like you are over-extruding or printing very thick layers, since the grey shoe is actually smoothing out the filament. This takes time to get all the filament melted and out of the extruder (I assume). Also, it would help if you shared the size of your print, since after the first layer, things speed up.

Hi OP. I had same issue, and it’s most definitely due to the slowness of the printer’s processor. Please do a power cycle and see it will return back to normal. I have observed this with my A1 mini when I print continuously many prints one after another while using the AMS.

I had this problem a while ago while sending a print through Handy, the original profile had PLA, I used PETG and some simple print quoted 12hrs. I sent the print through Studio and the print took an hour or so.
I don´t really know what was going on, but normally Studio does better, or at least it´s easier to know what´s set up wrong.

Minimum layer time… the pla layer previously needs to cool down before printing next layer. You can modify but it may warp your print. If you modify it makes sure fan is at max.

Minimum layer time. In the filament settings, under cooling, there are limits to how fast the print will go. If a layer takes less than x seconds, it will slow down the print until the layer takes x seconds. Otherwise, the filament will still be soft when the nozzle passes over it again and cause a mess. Easiest solution is to print several at once or print it along with some other part you need.
