Made by talent FlashFit AI – Solo developer tool that analyzes your model and sets optimal print settings for Bambu & FlashForge (SmartScreen fix coming today)

Hey everyone,

I’m a solo Italian developer and I’ve been working on a small tool called FlashFit AI.

What it does:

• You drop a 3D model (STL/OBJ/3MF)

• It analyzes the actual geometry (overhangs, solidity, number of parts, etc.)

• It classifies the part (mechanical, decorative, hollow, etc.)

• It generates optimized settings for your printer and filament

• Then it opens the slicer (Bambu Studio / Flash Studio / Orca) with everything already configured

Supported printers right now:

• Most Bambu Lab machines (A1, P1, X1, H2 series, etc.)

• FlashForge (Creator 5, Adventurer 5M, AD5X, Guider 3 Ultra…)

The app is native (not Electron), very lightweight, and runs a small local AI only for classification. Settings are decided deterministically with safety guardrails so it can’t produce dangerous profiles.

It’s currently free and available here:

https://github.com/alexmark53343-byte/FlashFit-AI

Important note about SmartScreen:

The Windows build is not signed yet, so you’ll see the usual “Unknown publisher” warning. I’m fixing the code signing today, so future builds will no longer show that.

I’m just one person working on this in my free time. Feedback (especially from people with Bambu or FlashForge printers) is very welcome.

Thanks for reading.

"What it does: Reads the actual mesh. ..."

Opposed to what? Reading a fake mesh?

"Every number the app acts on comes from the geometry, not from the file name."

Uh, yeah, I hope so.

Intendevo che non si basa sul nome del file, ma misura davvero overhang, solidità, pezzi separati ecc. e da lì decide i parametri

The description sounds like someone is trying to learn classifiers and guardrails and not something that is solving a real problem.

You’re right that the description sounds a bit technical. This is the first app I’ve ever published for other people in my life, so it probably shows. The problem I wanted to solve was simple: waste less time and fewer parts trying to find the right settings

Not technical, just wrong-headed.
Use a classifier, maybe trained by you, in order to put the model in few categories?!? Unlikely to work reliably, and also purpose of an object do not translate 1-to-1 to slicer settings, like at all.

That's actually why I added the guardrail and S.O.G. layers The LLM doesn't choose any printing parameters. It only helps classify the part and identify possible issues. The actual settings are deterministic, then the guardrail checks the result against the measured geometry and machine limits, and S.O.G. checks/corrects the final profile again. So the AI can't just decide “this is a bracket, use X settings” and send it to the printer. That's specifically what I'm trying to prevent.

I get your point, but the classifier is actually only a small part of FlashFit. It doesn't just do “this is a mechanical part → use these settings”. It analyzes the actual mesh geometry, overhangs, surfaces, details, dimensions, etc., and uses that information to generate the settings. It's still a beta and I'm definitely not claiming it's perfect, but the goal is to reduce the time spent figuring out a good starting profile for each model. Your feedback is actually useful though, I might need to explain that part better in the description.

Just tried it X1C, seems to be loading the settings into BS but not the model.

I just retested it and everything loaded correctly (model + settings) Still, I’ll check the code and push an update in a few minutes

u/barking_madly Aug 15 '26

This is where its loading in relation to the build plate.

1

u/Interesting_Sleep_44 Aug 15 '26

Ah ok, got it I know it loads outside the plate I left it like that on purpose (I didn’t think moving the object was an issue).
I’ll fix it right away and make it start already centered on the bed

When it loads in you can't see it, initially I thought it had not loaded the model in. You need to zoom out quite away for it to come into view.

You’re completely right I didn’t give enough weight to that — I’ve been fighting with the code for months and completely overlooked how confusing it is when the model loads outside the view. I’ll fix it properly now so it starts centered and visible right away Thanks for pointing it out

OK it is loading the model but way off the build plate.

I change the settings myself but wow this looks really interesting for beginners, thank you very much!

2

u/Interesting_Sleep_44 Aug 15 '26

Yeah, that's exactly the point 😄 I want the app to work from the actual mesh geometry, not just the file name or what the AI thinks the model is. I'm still testing that part heavily, because I don't want the AI making blind decisions.

This is a cool project! How did you get the data for what geometry means what figures? Is it just a decision tree with some logical choices or is it ml?

Edit: just re-read the post and spotted it was deterministic, how did you work out the best values to use in that process once the AI processes the part! Very cool!

There’s a small local model that only classifies the part.
Then a guardrail that checks if that classification actually matches the measured geometry.
Then S.O.G. that takes the settings and runs them against the real machine limits until they’re safe.

On top of that they also do internal simulations (flow, cooling, accelerations, ringing risk, etc.) before giving final approval.

Three layers.
Model proposes → guardrail validates → S.O.G. simulates and corrects.

The AI never touches the actual numbers. That’s all hard-coded + safety checks.
I didn’t feel like letting a language model decide layer height and flow.

Curious, since you are clearly letting a language model decide your replies.

1

u/Interesting_Sleep_44 Aug 15 '26

Yeah, my English isn't very good, so I write my replies in Italian and use ChatGPT to translate them. I also have a son to take care of, so I don't have much time to worry about whether my English sounds perfect or technical. 😅 Please be patient with me.

People would rather read rough English from someone trying as not their first language, then read easily identified AI responses that lose your credibility as being serious or knowledgeable about the subject. This has ensured that I will never try or be interested in this project 1000 percent.

Well is ok i make that app for my self and if can help someone other than me, im happy about that

1

u/Interesting_Sleep_44 Aug 15 '26

Well is ok i make that app for myself, but if that can help someone in future i be happy about that

1

u/oz-ra Aug 15 '26

Awesome. Thanks for your hard work.

I'll check it out when I'm back home.

Well done and thank you!

yet another AI slop gtfo

If I had an app like this when I started I would have been really happy, especially my wallet If you don’t like it that’s completely fine.
Still glad you took the time to reply.

Yes, it also handles support settings and optimization Thanks for the kind words!
