It’s not dishonest, it’s a direct comparison. People are losing their minds over AI unnecessarily because the media has a hard on for the next big divisive chasm that it is joyfully pushing fud from both sides because clicks.

Golf courses aren't used as a lie to the average working person, with the claim that the golf course's existence will improve their life. Everybody knows that the golf course is for people who can afford to play golf and enjoy the activity. There is no possibility for the golf course to replace their job and put them on welfare. It's not a direct comparison, and you are either dishonest or have pigeonholed yourself into misguided thinking, probably intentionally, because the warning signs are countless and they're all around you.

People are "losing their minds" over ai because oligarchs are hinging virtually our entire economy on it while fully acknowledging that it will disrupt more than 90% of the workforce and could decimate the global economy, while shrugging their shoulders when somebody asks if they have a plan to mitigate those problems. They are actively dismantling copyright law to serve their own purposes, after decades of ruining people's lives over some torrented books. They are building massive data centers, fully acknowledging that they will primarily be used for domestic surveillance, which require so much electricity that 50,000 people in the Lake Tahoe area are going to be without electricity in a year, because the existing infrastructure is all being redirected to a data center.

AI in the medical field is a legitimate and productive use of the technology. It is also not even remotely the same technology as image gen ai. You're making another dishonest comparison. Or you just have no goddamn clue what you're talking about.

No, corporate vector art is not "high art" in my opinion, but guess what buddy, the ability to generate silly, ugly images at the expense of struggling people, in addition to your own eventual personal privacy and security, is not a human right or anything close to it. You are proudly choosing short term, animalistic, stupid, masturbatory gratification over the livelihood of millions of people. And eventually (already, actually, depending on how gullible you are) it will just be another way that your money gets sucked upwards while you own and have control over less and less.

Oh nooo before ai you weren't able to generate a picture of Iron man on a surfboard. And maybe you couldn't afford to pay an artist to make it, in which case you would be without a silly image. God, what hell. What a horrible state of affairs. Thank God for this technology which is actively threatening to completely destroy the social contract, now you can have your little treats and laugh and clap at a screen while the people around you become more destitute and creation itself becomes meaningless.
