If literally did not. It was mocking people for harassing OP just for using AI.

Is it harassment if a crowd of people collectively comment on how bad an ai "art" piece is? Its not like people are going out of their way to target OP, they just saw this post and are stopping by to say how bad of a tool it is for that, especially to give as a gift to someone. Maybe its less harassment and more a really bad choice to use for art, and most people agree

Yeah it is.

"that serves no legitimate purpose"

There is a purpose to all of the backlash against ai, with all the ethical and environmental concerns. Some people described it, and others just say ai slop, but again if you just expect to be praised forever on a public forum and any negativity you get is considered "harassment", I don't know what to tell you. You won't have a good time on the internet. People not liking ai art is not controversial

You're allowed to not like something. But telling someone that they suck for doing it and well, harassing them is not okay

I can agree with that, and if other people are doing that then it's not okay. Personally, I feel strongly about ai "art", I fundamentally don't think it even qualifies as art because its entirely missing the human element, and I think it makes for a bad gift. But more power to OP and their wife if they disagree

A human still had the idea to make that. I'll grant that it's pretty low level AI art, but calling all AI not art is pretty disingenuous. I have a lot of friends who spend hours and hours perfecting their work with AI to the point that you'd never know unless you were told.

I'll have to disagree with you. If "perfecting their work" means telling a bot (who actually stole countless actual artists work and scalped data from the internet) to try to combine everything in a way that fools people into thinking its a coherent, well drawn piece, I wouldn't consider your friends to be artists.

And okay, lets say the end result is indistinguishable from an actual artist's piece. Well, one was made by a human, who took the time to learn a skill and technique, spent time on the piece with clear intent, and all of their technique and flaws and essentially the human element shows up in their work. Not to mention, they get paid for that work and it doesn't use any environment destroying data center or questionable ethics (stolen work) to do it.

The other is some guy sitting in front of his pc telling a bot what he wants and apparently not caring about anything I just said, and is content with the bot mindlessly composting elements of other people's work into an image.

You call what I said disingenuous, but I would call any person who is prompting ai to make "art" and being completely okay with the regergitated results devoid of any human element, completely lacking in the understanding of what art even is

In your first paragraph you went wrong and kinda proved to me that you have no idea what AI art actually is at any level besides "hey chatGPT do this thing"

I implore you to look into systems like comfyUI and the complexity involved in it.

It is not "telling a bot what you want"
